I have not used the PTO on the M944 but on the M936 to engage the Transfer case PTO you have to put the transfer case in Neutral before you engage the PTO on the transfer case. Then after you have engaged the PTO you put the transmission in 1-5 drive and run the speed up to what is needed.

Can not get any electricity to work
the manual says:
put transfer in N
engage the pto
put trans into 1-5
pull throttle out
adjust to 1150 rpms and no electricity happens
but if i crank my rpms up to 1650 I get some electricity?
Maybe something is wrong with my alternator?

If your getting the PTO to engage I would think there maybe some wrong with your Generator.
