M998 Squeaky Body Bushings

Hey Guys,

My M998 has squeaky body bushings. I have replaced them twice in the Humvee. But they all ways crack like they are dry rotting in a short period of time. What is the best upgrade body bushings to replace them with? Dose any one else body bushing squeak badly? Also any one have any solutions to this problem. I know if I spray them with oil like dw40 it stop the squeak for a short period of time but not a permanent solution to the problem.

I am guessing that you are buying NOS cab bushings? Maybe not stored in a climate controlled environment? There are several folks here using 3D Printers to create new bushings for the LMTV. They appear to be about the size of a HMMWV bushing... I personally have zero experience with printed parts, but they are relatively inexpensive. Of course you would need to be able to use a CAD program to use it. Another idea is that there are people who will draw your parts and send you a DXF (CAD Exchange File - A Universal Language) file.

Might be worth your time to learn. OR so hire somebody who would do it for you... At least it is a thought compared to removing a 20 year old bushing and replacing it with another 20 year old bushing - and all the labor and effort required to replace it.

Something is awry here, I do not remember anyone complaining about squeaking rubber bushings before, just about everyone using poly bushings complain about squeaking sooner or later.
Are you sure you have the correct bushings with the center piece that limits the compression?

I believe the ones for the M998 are the same as for the H1 Hummer. Why not order brand new ones for the H1?

I've seen Hummer H1 bushing kits advertised that include all of the bushings. The kits also had the NSN numbers listed for each of the bushings as well.

What would it sound like? I've got some rattles I'm trying to track down. Would it hurt to spray lubricant if bushing isn't bad?

When you took bushings out were they cracked all the way thru? Another thought...If you are already installing bushings how much more trouble would it be to lift an inch or 2?

This is a new upper mount that I got from AM General. I got 12 of them for 7.00 each. I’m using them for a body lift. Yours don’t look like that.

If you have rattles or squeeks, go after it with some silicone spray or even WD40.
Just remember. Spray something small and go for a ride.

If you spray everything in site sight, you won't know where the squeak really is - that needs to be fixed properly.

A 2" body lift requires body modification where the steering shaft goes through the body, fuel tank spacers and modification of the fuel fill hose.
I ended up having to trim the body mount to clear the fill hose. BTW that body mount is 30 years old.

I order from AM General but when I called them they told me it was run by a 3rd party. That’s how I understood it. I just order from their site online. I always check Mac Motors and Kascar, HPG before I order. Big price difference sometimes.
Body mounts I got from AM General and they were 7.00 each and they went up right after that
