There is no other reason to bind, other then what Ray listed. None. It simply can not be an electrical problem. Once you pull the C-Plug, the solenoid should retract.
I once saw the solenoid "cocked" a bit so the linkage and solenoid could not easily slide in and out. And the linkage was not adjusted IAW the instructions. So that was the "problem". The real problem was too many people, put too many hands on the thing. and "adjusted" it out of proper alignment.
