the TH400 3 spd auto in my 1985 m1028 seems to be on its last leg.
I much prefer a manual trans if i'm going to go to the trouble and expense of changing the tranny.

Is there a manual transmission option for the 6.2L diesel with np205 or whatnot...standard for that vehicle?

does it need adaptors for the bellhousing or transfer case?

any information would be much appreciated

thanks,
ian

There is a nasty rumor running around.
They claim: "The 6.2 does not play well with a manual trans, they have a tendancy to break crankshafts".
I do not know for a fact if there is alot of truth in it.
But i have not seen many manual trans with 6.2 trucks, and have been told this several times.

I have a 82 K20 with the 6.2 and a SM465. They work well together. If your decide to swap you'll need the brake pedal assembly from the doner truck. They are different. It also holds the clutch pedal and linkage. The holes for the clutch rod are alteady marked on the floor pan so drilling them is no problem. If you can find a gas model with the Sm465 and NP205 get it so you can get all the little clutch brackets for the frame. The hardest part to find is going to be the Manual flywheel for a 6.2. They are rare. You can subsute a 6.5 flywheel with the springs but they are expensive. By the time you bought everything it would be cheeper to rebuild the TH400. But the SM465 and NP205 are bullet proof.

RE: Manual M1028

there isn't much more involved with the nv4500 swap, other than you have to make crossmembers since it wasnt factory, and you will have to buy the adapter to mount the transfer case to the transmission. You can use a hydro. clutch so linkage is not an issue. It will cost some more to do, but If you do a lot of highway driving you'd prolly see the benefits.

RE: Manual M1028

Read that article and also go over to www.ColoradoK5.com and do a search for a guy named tRUSTyK5's write up of it from last year.

Wasn't as easy as it sounds and he had issues with the Advanced Adapters adaptor...didn't work quite as well as it should of and they didn't seem to care.
