MD JUAN GPW Maxi-Kit to be Raffled at CA MV Event April 19,2019

For anybody wanting a complete, new, in the crate, current production MD JUAN 1942 GPW Maxi-Kit for building a jeep or for reselling complete or parting it out, one will be raffled off to a lucky winner in April 2019 in Plymouth, California! Here is a link to all the included parts:

The Camp Plymouth Swap Meet and Military Vehicle Display Presented by MD Juan will be April 16-21, 2019. This is the new venue for the largest annual MV event west of the Mississippi - the replacement for the Petaluma and Tower Park venues. The hosting Military Vehicle Collectors of California is receiving this kit from MD Juan in a trade for title rights to this event and other advertising we plan to do for them, and proceeds from the raffle will fund the cash prizes for the People's Choice Contest at the jeep/Mite/M151/CJ pre-1987 showcase on Friday, plus other event expenses.

MD JUAN is the well known reproduction tub and parts manufacturer for wartime and post-war jeeps. The raffle on Friday evening after the dinner is an annual fundraiser for the non-profit MVCC. The jeep kit raffle is being run separately using unique $5.00 tickets. 2,000 maximum tickets and the MVCC Secretary is selling them now. The Maxi-Kit will look much like the original jeep-in-a-box from WWII, and the crate panels will be removed so the parts are visible. Imagine how this would look as-is in a man-cave garage! MD JUAN information will be available and possibly a senior manager will be there to answer questions. The kit must remain on display until Saturday afternoon, however the new owner can offer it for sale Saturday or for that matter, Friday night! There is a good chance many of the needed parts such as engine, drivetrain, axles, wheels, gauges, and wiring will be available at the meet, or contacts can be made with sellers who have them at home.

Raffle tickets will be sold all day Thursday and Friday at the MVCC HQ/Quartermaster booth. Separate tickets for the regular raffle will also be sold and the club is looking for nice items for men, women, and children. Donors will be named, so you pro vendors can get some needed recognition!

At this point the winner must be present to win but if that changes we will let you know. Probably an agent for the winner can represent him/her.

Some have asked for more info about the jeep Maxi-Kit and the MD Juan sponsorship of Camp Plymouth and the jeep showcase.

This kit is payment to the MVCC by MD Juan for marketing services this year. They and our truck showcase sponsor Hagerty Insurance want exposure to MVers and want to give something back to MV hobbyists. The MVCC, as promoter of a big show, is in a position to advertise brand names and products many ways plus run their ads in our 500 monthly print newsletters. In the past the club has received small sponsorships from a number of companies to fund cash prizes at most of the People's Choice Contests at the themed MV showcases. Thank Hagerty, Ron Fitzpatrick Jeep Parts, Surplus City Jeep Parts, Marin-Sonoma Concours d'Elegance, Midwest Military, ArmyTrucks, Inc., and Expedition Imports for their past support.

This year we decided for the new Plymouth venue to go after an overall event sponsor to include name-in-title rights. The extremely non-profit MVCC spends money on these events for the benefit of all hobbyists, and the newsletter cost has gone up. The Board wants to avoid a dues increase so we put together a bigger sponsorship package. When I heard that MD Juan president Rommel Juan and plant and sales manager Ramon Mendoza were going to stop in San Francisco after the SEMA show in Las Vegas, to let Ramon see the city for the first time, I called Rommel to see if he would be interested in a proposal. He said yes and we met for lunch two days later! He said they were interested to advertise recent improvements in their jeep parts. The negotiation evolved from cash, to cash and parts for our annual fundraiser raffle, to all trade, upscaling it to a loaded, early GPW Maxi-Kit. These are advertised by US dealers at $7,000 to $8,000. So this kit was shipped to the US at no cost to us, imported by a MD Juan dealer for drop shipping to the MVCC (we cannot be an importer). The plan is to display it through Saturday afternoon with MD Juan marketing materials. At the MVCC booth, raffle tickets will be sold for $5.00 each. No limit. 2,000 maximum will be sold. The proceeds will be MD Juan's sponsorship payment to the MVCC. Win-win-win.

For the curious, this is part number MMK019 which is a Maxi-Kit representing an early 1942 GPW. Sometimes the term Master Kit is used. It has an optional OD paint job rather than the standard primer red. It is not their "Kit in a Crate," which has a different part number, which are the same parts inside an all plywood crate that looks much like how jeeps were shipped in WWII. Our crate is the new style with a steel framework over plywood.

Unfortunately the jeep kit was hung up in customs in Oakland and sent back to MD Juan for reasons we do not know. There will be no jeep kit raffle.

There will, however, be the annual MVCC fundraising raffle Friday evening during and after the dinner at the Clubhouse. We welcome donations of items for men, women, and children. Bring them to the event headquarters and quartermaster booth just past the 49er RV Village office. Don't forget your business card or paper with your name on it so you can be recognized. Good for vendors, indicate where you are for Saturday shoppers.

Sorry I didn't get this news out sooner - the jeep kit didn't get shipped back! It showed up where it was supposed go but a week late! It has been in storage by the MVCC since April. The club is saying it will be on display and raffled at the 2020 Camp Plymouth Swap Meet & Military Vehicle Display which is scheduled for April 14-19, 2020.

Reason why it won't be raffled at the annual Fall swap meet, which will be at the Plymouth venue September 17-22, 2019, is the club wanted to give the same people who usually attend the larger April meet a chance to look at it and participate.

At the Fall version of Camp Petaluma the MVCC confirmed the plan to display and raffle this Maxi-Kit at the April 2020 event in Plymouth, CA is unchanged.
