Me and My M105A2 Extreme off road rock climb project

:carnac:alot of talk about towing the M105A3...... hauled mine from Barstow to Las Vegas almost 200 miles....F150 no issue.... pintel hitch and mag lights for markers the stuck right to the top of the tail gate..... passed CHiP on the way back on 15north...no issue at all. had a flat spot on one tire where they dragged it with an emergency brake still activated, made for a bumpy ride but after getting up to speed 70-75mph had no problem could hardly tell trailer or flat spot was there.

Now what to do with it.... I have seen lots of ideas and suggestions here.....
We are making this into a extreme off road trailer for desert survival camping.
Pull vehicle will be a 2015 Jeep Rubicon with 37" and 4.5 Rubicon Extreme Long Arm Kit
we will be removing the box..... so anyone needing or wanting a great condition box let me know.
building on the frame a 40"Wx90"Lx32"H aluminum box no wider than the frame rails with a fold out platform on top for tent.
In front of the box will be a 18 gal water tank and pump, Yamaha camp generator, propane tank, on demand hot-water system from campers world, air compressor, converting all electric to 12 volt with two onboard batteries and a solar panel too, LED lights inside and outside the box.

still need to find rims for the trailer that are not split ring, extensive search has come up with NOTHING......any Ideas?

Are we talking about a M105A2 or a M105A3? two different trailers. Also the rims are different.

Now to some housekeeping. Just an FYI, posting the same question in multiple places is concidered "cross-posting" and is not allowed. I have deleted your other post.

Your best bet is to swap out the axle, might even want to swap out the whole trailer. Not sure why you chose such a heavy azz trailer for a trail rig.

This project has been well thought out for the application that is needed.
Baja travel is some of the most extreme, as a photographer of landscapes and off road events I need to be able to go where the shot is.
And rock crawling in NV,CO,UT,AZ, and CA can be most exhilarating especially when you have made camp in places where very few people have tread.

Gimmpyrobb ...... Axel swap has been discussed by the team..... any suggestions on suppliers

I was just wondering why an M101A3 or M116A3(flat bed version) wasn't used.

EVERYTHING on an M105 is so overbuilt its insane. I cannot say what axle would work well for you as I haven't looked into any swaps like that. There is a lot of these trailer builds over on Expedition portal, and they go real in-depth on their builds. Might want to check over there.

What is the tow rating on your jeep? I think you've used it up already with just the empty trailer.

The really slick jeep trailer, though much smaller, is an M416.

M105A2 is at 2650lbs with box on it.... we are removing the steel bed and replacing it with an aluminum box
still should be under weight....

Like i said folks this has been very well planned out
Please avoid the basic questions here.....
looking for info on tires brakes and wheels
Gimpy sent me in a right direction..... new axle, it answers the braking issue tire issue and wheel issue

In any social media setting where people are unfamiliar with you, you will get the questions like the ones already asked. It is part of the process to verify that you know what you are doing and make sure you have looked at other possibilities. When you posted that you towed an M105 that you just picked up at 70-75 with a flat spot, that is a red flag to me as it could have been caused by dragging or sitting for a while both of which weaken the tire. Safety is paramount when operating or picking up a piece of equipment you are unfamiliar with. (an NDT tire coming apart at 50-55 is quite exciting, at 70-75 you would be lucky if you retained control of your vehicle and didn't kill someone.)

Our time is valuable as well, so coming on here and getting angry and rude after a few basic questions won't get you any help. And if you hate forums because of things like that you may be the problem.

The folks on this site bend over backwards to help anyone, but being arrogant will get you nowhere fast.

If you want some help, maybe you should try again.

no by the pic I can't tell the build has started,all I see is a Jeep backed up to a 105 trailer.

All everyone here is doing is trying to keep you from wasting your time and money on something your not going to be happy with. What's the point if your already going to remove the bed and put an alum. bed on it then remove and replace the axle? All your left with is the springs ( that are too stiff and heavy for an alum. bed) and no shocks and the heavy ass fame. You'll need to replace the axle because you will not find any rims that are not split ring that will fit over the drums, besides it would be better to match the rims on the trailer to the same bolt pattern as the Jeep to keep from having to carry two different spare rims and tires.

The bed on a M105 weighs about 950-1050lbs. The 105 axle and wheels are also pretty heavy as well. Moving to a civilian axle/wheels/tires/brakes would greatly assist that.

But the best advice in this thread is to look at the M1101 series trailers. They're an aluminum construction with a torsion axle. Already have surge brakes installed. Most have LED lights on them that will work on 12v. They sit on HMMWV wheels/tires to go along with your rockcrawling look.

I have a few M105's. I've pulled them behind my jeep unlimited as well. I wouldn't want it loaded down behind mine though honestly. It's uneventful on the road, but things change a lot off road.

Also the M1101 trailers have a very stout weight raiting as well. 1 1/4 ton if memory serves. I have hauled more than that in mine several times without any issue at all. One thing to note, the M1101's perform better at 14-15psi in the tires. (Yes, that's not a misprint)

Sorry to dissapoint. Many folks here have been there and done that already. Everyone was trying to be helpful but hey, if you want to put lipstick on a pig, have at it. Since you and your off road group seem to know so much about trailers, why ask here? Figurlred you would already know that bolster trailer wheels and tires would fit.

TobyLogic, buy your questions and answers you literally shout out your lack of knowledge of military trailers. Well thought out plans by experts ? Really ?!! The guys here where trying to set you on a path of success, not failure. Most of the guys here where 4 wheeling before you where even a glimmer in your fathers eyes ! So if you don't want our advice fine, just don't complain and whine about it .

I'm not sure where you came up with anger anywhere in my post? Text is a wonderful means to relay information, not emotion. Because what one might wish to imply and what another might interpret are two totally different things. I had no anger at all in my post. Just my opinion on the best platform to start with. The weight capacity between a M1101 and M105 is only 500lbs. But the curb weight is drastically different. Just seems like a lighter platform with a modern axle with a modern brake system ready to go would be a better option. That's why I agreed with the other mention and added more details. The trailer choice is absolutely yours to make. I just like pulling my M1101 over my M105's behind a civilian vehicle. If you were around my area, I'd invite you to pull both variants near my place and on the trails behind my place.
