Need to replace the fuel gauge yet again on my 831. Instead if using another take-out gauge, I was thinking of going after market. I know the gauge is a 2”, but does anyone know what the ohm range is?

From ARMY TM 9-6115-639-23P I look for both sender and gauge: both will need the same ohm readings, so a find on either will give you good info.

Lots of old military vehicles use a 0-30ohm sender (0 empty, 30 full). I believe 0-30 was an old GM spec so you should be able to find something suitable as long as people still build older GM V8 powered hotrods.

It looks like we have used that fuel gauge for decades. I found part number MS24544-2 after poking around.

Here is a hint.

The NSN has 00 for the 5th and 6th numbers. That tells you that the meter in question has been in the military system longer then most of the SS members have been on the face of the earth. Any and all of the cancelled NSN's below will give you a comparable meter.

The NSN 6680-00-933-3600 has also been cancelled, and replaced by
6680016427080, which is the currently listed gauge in the TM for this gen set.

Guy: What TM are you looking in to find your info? Especially the

"CXCYPART NAME ASSIGNED BY CONTROLLING AGENCY30 OHM FUEL LEVEL GAUGE".

The only place I was able to find the ohm resistance values was at Eriksmilitarysurplus and that after Diesel's hint to look for 30 ohms

True.... And there some of us real old troops that remember when the 4 and 5th -xx- country of origin number was not even in the NSN.

Some gauges have lights in them some do not. You will need to investigate the details of the particular gauge. In my experience (802 & 803) the light you need will be 24 volts like the gauges. My Faria gauges had the lights in the gauges, just not used. My Datcon gauges did not have a light. With those you need to buy a separate light and socket.

But the hole for the socket will be there, if the light is not.there is a thread or two that has all this info. I don't remember the name of it, but someone will/should chime in soon.
