One would have to make a bracket and mount a N/O pushbutton so that it is made when breaker is open/off, then low voltage lines to the oil pressure cicuit in series would only let generator stay running with oil pressure and breaker open, of course 600 feet may need a relay in series with oil switch and operated by push button, either way it would be no forgetting or someone starting without knowing the setup, just a thought because Linemen are already out in the weather that makes running the genset needed,..

At my day job, I have installed several generator/ups sets which always require maintenance bypass breakers as part of the installation. These are larger (300kva and up) sets. They typically utilize a key interlock for the bypass breakers. Search for "Kirk Key" and you should be able to find them on ebay or elsewhere online.

This does seem like it would meet the panel interlock requirements for residential code just like the single-panel interlock kits do. Neat idea. Key capture is obviously critical, so the cylinder (actually the bar) has to work the right way.
