When I was about 7-8 years old, we went to Wills Point Texas to visit my Grand Parents and Great Grand Ma. She lived in a old broken down place out on a Farm Road. Great Grand Ma was kinda mean as hell, not Children friendly I guess. After she chased my brother and I around with a switch for a while, she told us she was going to lock us up in the "Storm Cellar". Now that was NOT a cellar. It was a hole someone had dug about a million years ago. It was roofed over with timbers and dirt. She opened it up, I took one look, and the visions of spiders, snakes, rats, Armadillos and every other terrorizing thing my brain could come up with. I took off and was about 1/4 mile down the road before my Uncle caught up with me. On the threat of death, I would not have gone down there!

Every time I think about moving back to the midwest, I start thinking I need to build an underground bunker/house.

Fires, tornados, ice storms, trees falling? No problem.

Exactly
Don’t forget about our hail storms.
Several storms last year with softball sized hail.
Yes ………softball
Going completely through the roof and ceiling and landing inside homes.
That’s exactly why we have a metal roof.

I spent the morning on the tractor getting rid of the downed trees and countless branches.
Will take a month to get everything cleaned up.

I did just watch the news and the fire threat has been downgraded somewhat.
More humidity than expected and winds just a touch lower than earlier forecasted.

Well generator is back in position.

This Friday and Saturday are again two days of extreme fire threat with winds again in the 50-60 range and low humidity.

When this threat is over then I have tornado season to deal with.

Perfect
I'm glad to see that fire threat is down somewhat for you.

I guess my take on the generators and fire preparedness is that it is just the table stakes for living where I live. Personally, I prefer tornados (some warning) to fires (not much warning, at least around here), to earthquakes (no warning), but that's me.

All the best,
