I've searched the forum and google and can't find the info. If this is posted someone please point me to it.

Has anyone converted the 2nd fuel cartridge filters (MEP-802/3a) to a screw on type? If someone can post a list of parts that are needed for this conversion.

I haven't seen it done on the stock housing, but I suppose its possible. Is there a reason why you are trying to do this? Is it of a matter of convenience? You could probably remove the filter in the can, and cut an in-line filter into the incoming fuel line behind it?

I agree its a poor design. I find a coffee can and a funnel will catch most of it though.

Howdy,
Why re-invent the wheel. The fuel cartridge filter will last hours upon hours before it needs changing. A cartridge filter cost about ..er... something like $8.00

I wouldnt bother with it. The original filters should last many many hours and the cartrage filters are easy to change with some practice.

If i was ever going to change out the housing for any reason i would be installing a randcor marine style filter with a glass bottom. But thats still a cartrage style. I do like to beable to see the fuel and see whats in the bottom of the filter bowl.

Green Mountain lists a Wix 33472 for a spin on replacement. Not sure if it's supposed to be a direct fit on the original housing or not. They sell it for $29.50 but i see a listing on ebay for much less.

My unit indicated all new filters just before it was surplussed. I may never run it enough to need to replace the fuel filter. I rotate my fuel with fresh treated fuel about 3 times a year.

Rockauto wants $10.30 for that fuel filter......

From Daybreak's filter list......
Fuel Filter, Spin-On Fuel/Water Separator Filter (FILTER,FLUID NSN# 2910-01-376-5666 )
True Military filter with drain connector 85285-F

Alternate replacements, with bottom drain, but, factory drain with hose does NOT connect WIX 33472, NAPA 3472, FLEETGUARD FS1251, BALDWIN BF1226, DONALDSON P550248, FRAM P8043, PUROLATOR F64424

Thats prob the same filter as the spin on one. The numbers dont cross over but there the same physical size and thread. Un sure if the micron are different.
If i remember right the filter would need to have a male thread to replace the cartrage filter
