Before you assume anything, TEST, TEST, TEST. Read the TM. Get smart.

You may not have a problem at all, if you put in a 12 volt meter, in a 24 volt system.

So I ran and bought a thermostat from O’Reilly part # mu55358. I removed the original one and put them on the stove. The new one opened as it should. The original had 88c on it. It didn’t start to open until 200* and it only opened a small amount. I think I found the issue. I read in a few other threads of guys using the mu55358 in place of the original. It’s missing the bleeder, but I will put a small hole in the flange to make up for it. I do this to all my small block fords anyway, takes a minute longer to warm up but if the thermostat is ever stuck it gives you a chance to get off the highway. Only thing is this part is missing the bottom spring and flange, what is this for? Some sort of bypass? Also thank you Ray I will change the sender as well and note there should be a few degree spread.

Anybody able to tell me the importance of the bottom flange on this thermostat? It seems like it limits the amount of coolant that can bypass the radiator and flow directly back to the engine. Checking my judgement.

Nice Fox body. I had an 87' LX , 89' Saleen, 93' LX, 2000 GT, 94 GT, 88 GT convert, 05 GT and I still have my first car, a 67' coupe with a small block, T5, 9" posi and nitrous as well as my 69' big block convertible. Then there's that other Pontiac thing over in the far corner...
