MEP 803a Voltage Regulator Alternative

I need to replace the voltage regulator in my 803a. This seems to be a weak link for the generator. Mine has the mod but the VR seems to be poor quality. Is there an aftermarket VR that would work for the machine that is more robust and or cheaper? I just don’t want to spend 300 bucks on a refurbished one that could go out right away. I would like to have a backup as well but can’t justify it at that price point.
