Mep-831a manual starting

I have a 2005 MEP-831a with 18 hours, I tried to pull start with the decompression lever and it spins and pops back but doesn’t start (just about ripped my arm off!)
Is there a better way to pull start ? I did try to use two 12 volts in series but my jumpers are Chinese junk and wouldn’t carry the amps needed to turn over the starter. I will get some motorcycle batteries later this week and try that. Any suggestions are appreciated

update- I installed two 12v 17.5 amp batteries in series and started right up, it wouldnt shut down with the emergency stop or switch. I had to use the docomp lever. So my governer is not adjusted correctly i guess. Will work on that once my klopp controller arrives.

You pull the starter cord Gently till you hit compression then Push down the Compression release lever and give it a big pull.

Yup, thats what I did. After I got the batteries in there and started it up, I can see that as kloppk said “its knob-dicked” the linkage settings are all wrong. Im gonna wait for the aftermarket controller and tackle it then. Keep you posted.

Agreed, do what DieselAddict said about manual starting. I've forgotten and not done that and just about yank my arm out of the socket.

If if didn't shut down it's likely there was a fault and power was already removed from the GC by the fault relay. Have seen this many times.
Let me know once you get my GC installed and you still have issues.

Ok, put in the klopp controller, adjusted the linkage when the magnet grabs to just before the fuel lever closes. No other adjustments, and runs really good. Ill try to post a video up, but looks like you have to link it.

1. Quick tip, use another browser that you aren't logged into to test links. Most people use Chrome as their main browser so copy your link and open in Microsoft Edge, or Firefox if you have it.

2. My guess is you went into Details and edited your video on YouTube Studio, make sure you hit the blue "Save" at the top of the page.

I was doing it from my phone, and the save wasn’t taking. Should be viewable now. Don’t be too disappointed it’s pretty short👉🙁

Fires up nice, I'm curious as to why the load meter didn't drop when you opened the AC Contactor?
Thanks!!! I am hoping the load meter needle was stuck for a few seconds there..that was the very first time I put a load on it. ....but not sure...as there wasn’t enough of a load to hear alot of difference in engine speed.
I am going to do a heavier load test tomorrow (and a better video) and find out for sure -JHO

That whats laying around, and I think electricity to heat is pretty constant v.s. a fridge, stereo or skillsaw (just my opinion). That being said, since you bring it up, I think I’ll use a shopvac, electric blower and a blender....just to mix it up a bit. (Pun intended):oops:
