MEP-8xx series fuel pump

Any clue if this will work with an 003? My number 3 auxiliary pump died the other day. I am going to need a new one to keep from having to drag fuel to it.

For the primary pump you can use the E8135 and the older E1074 on an 002 and 003, you might just need to use a couple right angle fittings to have room for the hoses. You should probably only run 1 of them as I don't know if they are blow-through style in case 1 of them fails. Keep the spare in your parts inventory. Any 24V pump in the same approximate pressure range will work as long as you don't care about originality. All you're trying to do is provide fuel to the IP.
The only thing I would avoid are the cheap import knock off pumps that look like the Airtex. They will work, but don't last very long.
For the auxiliary pump it will work there as well, with the right fittings, but I don't know off hand what the advertised lift height is compared to the Facet pump.

From the MEP-803A TM: Facet 40193 is main pump. Aux is Facet 40194. See attached docs for pump specifications.

Facet Specs:
40193 ....max pressure of 30psi at 10gph

40194.... 5 - 6.5 psi at 23gph


Airtex Specs:
E8131.... 10-14psi at 35gph

E8135.... 5.5-9psi at 35gph
E8267.... 5-9psi at 30gph
E1074.... 5.5 - 9 psi at 20gph (Summit Racing data: site says gpm)


My MEP-802A came with the E1074 installed for both Primary and Aux. fuel pumps, so the E8135 or the E8267 look like the best choice for the MEP-8xx series of generators. I guess we need to get them while we can....I just ordered a spare E8135.

I just ordered 2 from Autoplicity, they have the E8135 in stock for $31ea. and $11 shipping for 2. Says they have 18 more in stock.

Same pump is on Rock Auto for $27.79, but with that said... its called out for "large carbeurated Gas Engine" applications. I wonder if its diesel rated?

Both GAS and DIESEL are checked on the application chart for that pump. The application specialist I talked to on the phone gave me that one as one of the options to replace the E1074.

If you are replacing the round E1074 with the adapter pipe you will need to buy two 1/4 NPT male x #4 JIC adapters , one 90 degree and one 45 degree. I get these from www.discounthydraulichose.com
I try to keep a couple pumps and a hand full of fittings on-hand incase a customer ever calls with a failed fuel pump, or one dies on a machine I'm working on.
If you want to install the G-17 strainer ( its not really a filter ) that is 1/8" NPT so you need to get the right adapters to install it in your desired location ( input to the pump )
These appear to fit the bill, as stated above (trying to take the work out of it for those who read this later on). Please feel free to confirm these are what you bought Ray:

Yes, that looks like what they will need. The fittings themselves are cheap compared to the cost of shipping so I bought a handful of different ones, including options to install the 1/8" NPT G-17 strainer, if I ever needed to. But I believe those 2 you linked are the basic of what is needed. Once people get into their machine they will find a couple different available scenarios depending on what pump they are trying to replace. As long as they are mindful of to match the inlet and outlet lines to the correct side of the pump, everything will work out.

One word of caution: when replacing the E1074 ( with the 4" adapter pipe ) I normally remove the adapter pipe and use the 45* fitting on the bottom outlet of the pump and attach the hard stainless steel line that is original to the machine.
Then use the 90* fitting in the top of the pump and attach the flexible line coming from the tank. Occasionally the line to the tank is a little short or too stiff and will just barely reach, but may put unwanted stress on the lines.

Another way of doing it is to use leave the adapter pipe on and use the 90* and 45* fittings Plus a 1/4" M X F 90* street elbow https://www.discounthydraulichose.com/5502-04-04-14-male-nptf-x-14-female-nptf-90.html .
Put the street NPT 90* and the 90* JIC in the outlet of the pump and install the pump with the outlet up and attach the adapter pipe. Then use the 45* on the bottom and attach your inlet.

There are several options, it all depends what you have now and what you want to keep or eliminate such as the adapter pipe, strainer etc.
It's cheap insurance to buy a couple extra fittings so you have options available or so you have fittings available for your next machine, because we can never stop at just 1 :beer:

Look at what I stumbled upon this morning, for those that dont want to hobble together..

Just received my order for 2 fuel pumps. Glad to have them in the spares locker. Thanks again LITD.

Now I'm looking for 2 of the filters that attach directly to the primary fuel pump. Has anybody been able to source these lately, or maybe somebody has a couple in their parts stash that they don't need? It's the Airtex G-17.

Craig as you have found, they are out of stock in almost all places at the moment. Just put a call into Airtex ASC... they are not discontinued thankfully. They are on national backorder, coming in from overseas. They have a tentative landed date of 3/15. A great time for folks to start getting all of these small widgets in their parts bins, if they are able to.
