Its been a minute since i have been on this site. Unfortunately i do not have any of the overlay decals available. I should still have the file around though. You can take it to any sign shop and have it printed on vinyl with a matte laminate applied over it.
.
Yessir, me as well.
If you can provide the art, I can print it on PS Vinyl for sure!

Ok it seems it engages fully with the solenoid into the flywheel but just spins not spinning flywheel. I tried forcing pivot arm with a broom handle but it won’t move further. Not sure what’s going on yet. Will need to look into it next time. I guess best way to describe is the starter turns, solenoid engages but hits nothing. No grinding either. Just freewheels

Can you help me out here? I am having trouble understanding "just freewheels". When you write "engages fully", do you mean that the pinion gear is all the way into the teeth of flywheel? Or just that it moves to the flywheel?

All the best,

It moves towards the flywheel as it spins normally. Just not engaging far enough maybe. Something could be holding it from going all the way. It way below zero. Maybe just binding or hard grease holding it back. I couldn’t see how far in it goes.

Thanks, that explanation makes sense to me. Binding, hard grease, gunk in the starter, partial short in the winding (water?), corroded solenoid, poor battery / starter connections or a low battery are all possibilities that I would consider...

If my McRibs quit hurting I may take the trip back to the north woods next weekend.
Don't overdo it I broke two ribs once in a motorcycle accident and about 4 weeks later I was feeling great decided to work on my truck and while pulling on a breaker bar I broke my rib again and the second time hurt a lot more than the first time

Remove the neg. battery terminal. Remove the two bolts that hold the starter on. Pull the starter out. Make sure that the starter is insolated from all metal and battery posts. Replace the Neg terminal. Have someone engage the starter. You look at the starter and see if it moves, and how far it moves. Make darn sure the batteries are FULLY charged , before this is done. Cold and batteries do not get along together.

Very good point on low batteries. If they are marginal then the glow plugs will drain them to a no start condition.

And like Scooby I rebroke ribs from pushing the limits, also did the same with an arm at a different time. Yea, I am one of those that didn't like to listen to doctors advice. I do now!

And if you test the starter with it removed be sure to have a good hold on it (nowhere near the moving gear). It will want to jump pretty hard. In other words, be sure that you have a grip on it and it is not laying on top of the batteries. Put a heavy clot between the starter and whatever it is sitting on. If any of those hot wires touch the chassis you will find out a 24 volt arc is exciting to say the least.

Rick I am searching for the cold weather slide on the tm but haven’t come across that. Genny is 300 miles away ATM. Is it one of the intake tubes going to the lovers? I must rotate
I don't know if it is in the TM, probably just never paid attention to that since I have run into that same issue on vehicles and trucks that go from normal weather into extreme cold. If it is something that will be out in the cold for long periods I will use graphite in the bushings and shafts but otherwise I use a light machine oil. Extreme heat areas I use grease. And that is were this might be coming from, grease at below zero temps becomes a heavy paste like glue.

I would also be interested in a couple of the overlays.
