MEP004A Fuel Pump

Hello again, back on this MEP004a again. I recently picked this up and it has been sitting for a long time from the looks of it. Anyway as I try to bring it back to life I find that the fuel pump doesn’t work. With the run switch in run and the battle short switch on I measure 24 volts to the wire at the pump to ground. I removed the entire pump and disassembled the bottom. It was pretty gummed up. I cleaned the strainer and parts that came out from the center tube. Reassembled and jump 24v to the single wire and ground to the chassis still nothing. Normally I would call this a bad pump but I do read 21 ohms between the chassis and the wire coming out. This tells me the motor is possibly still good. I think it’s just frozen. The other thing I can’t help but notice is there is only one pump on this machine. The manual shows two pumps but I’m sure there is only one. I don’t think I would have missed another fuel pump if it is there. Any ideas? Or, any advice on where to find a new pump? Thanks.

did you pull the slug out? theres a steel piston in that tube that needs free. that tends to get glued up. I in extreme cases have had to use compressed air to blow through the outlet to get it loose.

There is 2 pumps, they should be piped together. so if you took 2 hoses off this one someone already removed it.

Yeah, for sure it’s a goner. Here’s what I did, I heated it up pretty good with a heat gun while I was hitting the mounting plate with an air hammer to send some shock thru it. It’s freed up and moving now. Thanks guys!

It'll run just fine with one pump matter of fact I've seen them run with just one pump quite frequently because people don't realize that one pump has failed and it's just a dead brick

It seems to be running just fine with the one pump. The electrical is a bit of another story. I’m not sure if starting a new thread regarding the voltage regulator is better than getting into it here.
While I’m on that subject, I have some trailer parts I don’t need either. If someone needs them they can have them. Is there a better place to post the parts? Thanks.

The second fuel pump is not for performance it is there for redundancy. They can run just fine off of one.

I'm getting ready to retrofit my 004 with a updated AVR I would be happy to share notes with you.

Awesome, thank you. I’ll be looking forward to that.
