Any one have experience with these old gens! Im trying to trouble shoot mine im having a no spark situation wont start in emergency or regular mode im thinking magneto! It had a brand new magneto on it when i got it from gsa?? The oil pressure gauge doesnt seem to work either! Ive went through the tech manual but im stumped!aua

Pull the mag apart and file the points. Snap spin by hand to check. If that gets you spark (and it will) replace the points. For some reason once filed, they never last.

OK i took the magneto off cleaned the points, Followed the tm procedure for reinstalling it with the timing marks! I now have spark but no fuel, Pump is shot from old fuel sitting it it! I will order a new fuel pump and carb.It will fire on starting fluid or gas poured down carb so im half way there! Thanks Kenny for the suggestion!

Well i put a brand new carb on and fuel filter and she fired right up! Runs great! I bought it for $150 from gsa and put $100 bucks in it! Not a bad gen for $250 total!! Very loud though will wake the dead!!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1370301643.887583.jpg

Good deal. Yeah, they are quite loud for sure. As far as the points, my experience has been that once the points are filed, they carbon up super fast. Keep that in mind if you lose spark. The mags are pretty dependable themselves.

I only used emery cloth on the points hopefully they will hold up! I will order a set as a spare!

glad to see you got her going. putting a timming light on it helps it did mine. saturn surplus has some failbanks mag. points not the slick. i still fire mine upnow and then.

Saturn is where i got the carb, oil filter, and fuel filter! I just need to find the tool box for the top mine was smashed!!
