MEP026C 28 volts 109 amps good for what?

I ran across one of these. OK I know it's gas and loud. Is this usable for some kind of solar battery bank backup recharge generator or power outage generator used with batteries and a 24-120 inverter? I think the 4 cyl mil std gas engine can be converted to natural gas.

I cant see why it will not be good for that kind of use. Yes the engine can be modded for NG. Has the engine got solid state ignition?

Yes it does. I will pick it up tomorrow and get some pictures. It turns over and is all there, that’s all I know at this point.

It would be a heck of a jump start unit for all these dead MVs.

Thats good. Because without the solid state ignition, the reliability of the engine is much reduced. I hated this engine before the upgrade. Next is the fuel pump. These engines are old, so keep an eye on the oil level. The diaphragm in the fuel pump can crack/split. Then fuel runs down into the oil pan. Doesn't take long and the oil/gas will erupt out of the oil filler tube. But if you go to NG, then you can forget that problem. Other than that, this is a sweet little engine!
