MF vs Gas differences

I bought a MF grill/ cover for my gas truck only to find that the MF is an inch taller and that the side covers are correspondingly different (the gas side covers taper toward the front whereas the MF are straight). Why was this done? Was it done to fit the MF in a gas truck? What other changes were made to fit the multi in a gas truck? I have also noticed that there are two styles of MF front motor mounts (a long front plate (which also appears to hold the radiator) and side mounts). Can anybody explain where one is used vs. the other? Thanks.

There's quite a few threads on multi/gasser differences. If you have a gasser you need gasser sheet metal for the truck to be correct. You can do alot of swapping depending on the part to make things work (like you could probably use multi grill and side panels with rest gasser metal). As for the engine, the multi is alot bigger of an engine.

The front crossmember is different. Channel iron for multi, a regular crossmember for gas. Pass motor mount in rear is moved rearward 4 in for multi. Grill and side panels. Fenders are different, but will work on both trucks. Brake line for front axle is routed different on frame on gasser, but will work for multi.

I have searched but haven't found any threads which discuss the more nuanced differences. I understand that replacement fenders were included in the MF retrofit kit.

Does anyone know if the taller side covers/ grill were included in the retrofit or are a REQUIREMENT for a MF?

So, which front motor mount is used where?

They are definately different MF is higher.

There's also at least 3 different types of front fenders that I know of too, and I don't think it was a "kit".

Same winch but the driveshaft is different.

Gasser driveshaft is larger diameter but works with a little clearance grinding.

I went and measured the side panels. About an inch shorter at the front hinge than at the rear for Gasser versions and the same for the multifuel panels. Good to know something else that is different. Looking under the hoods, it seems the radiator is the closest thing to hitting on the multi. That leads me to guess that the grill and side panels were changed to make a proper sized radiator fit. However, it could be the valve cover was what hit and the radiator was made bigger because more room was found. With the way these trucks are almost over cooled. That wouldn't suprise me either.

The Gasser pto shaft is a different diameter as pointed out above and hooks onto the pto differently than the multifuel shaft. The slip joint part of the shaft is at the opposite end.

Well, I bought a MF cheap enough just to satisfy my curiosity and am wondering as to what it really takes for a swap. Radiator, side covers, grill, accelerator pedal bellcrank, front x-member, ????

I know kenny had a good thread up on swapping to a multifuel. I did it also, don't remember how much detail I went into, but search for a thread called "extensive M108 repairs"
