heck, every MV out there in GOVT service (past and present) doesnt meet ANY states laws for having a rear license plate light....... Do you really want GL starting to enforce the standards???? I dont...
Michiganders have an out on this one. If we get a historical plate and the vehicle was not originally equipped with one then you do not need one. My 1984 Cucv will be eligible next year for the historic plate but it is a daily driver so I will have to rig up a light. I was going to put one on my M35 and I have told people in the past that they needed one but I reread the law for lights lately and found the exemption. Now I will not put a light on the plate since it is not needed legally. I almost never drive it at night anyway.

Also, I agree with your comments.

here's a little more info:

From the Emergency Vehicle collectors group:
"When traveling anywhere, you must cover or remove the emergency lights, cover or remove anything saying POLICE on the body, and NEVER blow the siren on the road. Many of us go the extra distance and place signage on the car while traveling that says “OUT OF SERVICE.” Some disable the emergency equipment electrically when driving it to and from events."

here's a list of their 2008 events...might consider attending and trading info. I've been to one in California and don't remember seeing any MP vehicles there.. Might open up a whole new area for you..consider becoming a member of the forum/organization for a year or so and see how it goes...
