Milton after action

Back during Charlie, I lived on the east side of Orlando. Our power was out for three days. My neighbors were all sitting in line at near by gas stations that had power for hours. My wife asked me what I was going to do about gas for the generator? I told her I'm going to get on the east-west expressway and go west until I see the lights on, and then stop and get gas. Charlie was a small compact storm and didn't affect a wide area. I thought I might have to go to Clermont, but turns out just the west side of town. I pulled in to a Mobil station with one or two cars at the pumps and filled up. Back home in 45 minutes. A little planning goes a long way, and saves time.

This is such great advice. I can't count the times I have seen similar things happen. A little forethought and planning can save a bunch of time and hassle. Around here, I track the gas stations that I know have their own back up power.

All the best,

Whole-heartledy agree with this. Minimum two, but three is a solid long term plan.

Also, have the ability to run from multiple fuel sources, your fuel type may become limited. I keep a couple of gas inverter generators for light loads and backup.
I keep a gas inverter generator on hand for lite loads too.

Two is good, three is great! I was in western NC during Helene (at a conference - long story), but at home have one MEP-003a and 100 gallons of diesel, a 5kw commercial gasoline/propane generator, a little 2200 watt luggable generator that runs on non-ethanol gas, and two 20 pound propane cylinders. House lost power for 36 hours since I was not there to start the generators, all the frozen food was good, some items in the fridge were thrown out as a precaution. Life goes on.

Agreed, agreed.

Two MEP's and a small inverter portable gasoline one.

003 still running well? I need to test mine out. Depending on how you heat, it could be your best bet this winter.
Yup, runs good. It does smoke out of one pipe until it warms up but I watched Scooby's video and his does the same thing from the same pipe. I am thinking possibly a sticking injector from sitting so I have a healthy dose of Power Service cleaner/lube in there. I still need to load test it but I don't think there will be any issues. If there are I will tell the guy I bought it from I want my money back. LOL.

Right now I am battery poor!!! All my generators need batteries and I am stealing them out of trucks to run the generator. They just ain't cheap anymore.

Which video? The tan one? Because that was the first start from an IP replacement.

Yea. Batteries have gotten stupid expensive.

Probably was. Did you ever get the set from Mike going?
Bit of a story here, when I made it up to Mikes, he introduction to is neighbor, which had a 003 in need of an IP. That one is in my shop and back living now, but since I had other things come up Mikes unit didn't get unloaded, I did service it and make a few repairs. But since it was in the trailer it made its way to the house for the Milton aftermath. 36 hours of runtime after the other issue.
