Mk48 LVS Hydraulic Specs

Hey all,

We use our Mk48 LVS/15a1 constantly... this week the crane was dropping a 3,000 lb Chieftain breech ring back into her...

But we continually have to run the engine, and it usually starts to overheat... STILL can't find that problem.

Anyway, we were thinking about putting an auxiliary engine driven pump on the maintenance deck so the Mk48 could be shut down and the crane / winch still used...

Anybody have the specs on this... what would we need from a GPM and pressure standpoint? STILL can't find a TM on the Mk15/a1 trailer so kinda lost.

Thanks!

Any way to remove the existing pump from the pto and use it? That would eliminate the research project. Try getting the radiator rodded out.

You need the existing pump for the steering, there is NO pto on the MK48s, the pump is live 100% of the time, according to the hyd. schematic, you have 3000 psi coming to the rear, with pressure reducing to the winch control stand for some of the functions there, same with the crane control stand, the crane WILL NOT function without full psi. the pilot valves WILL NOT open. I have this issue on BART, I need high idle for the crane/rear winch to work.

As far as your heating issue, find the two hyd. oil temp. sensors and replace them, they not only control the cooler fan but the cold oil bypass (cold hyd. oil goes around the cooler till it warms up)

Thanks Ron, good advice there, sounds like I need to stick to giving tidbits on vehicles I have actually SEEN (LOL).
