MK48 Observations and Questions

I have watched the last two auctions and wonder:

Are people buying more than one so I can't have one....Grrrrr

Are people buying more than 2 so I can't have one........Double Grrrrr :cry:

Are the xtras a hedge for spares?

The MK14's I could see having a civiy use, the MK18's please tell me what you will use these for? Other than keeping the FPU from falling on it's face or a backyard full of ISO containers or the odd Ribbon Bridge you happen to have laying around, I can but guess.

Do the elusive MK17 or Mk15 RBU's ever surface?

How reliable are the MK48's.

The average price on the first lot was $15,000.00 each.

Considering the gooberment paid around $180,000.00 a pop for the MK48/14 combination that was a steal.

If you can't afford between 12K and 20k for one plus buyers premium and tax and shipping you are prob barking up the wrong MV.

We helped load out several last week and these trucks are going to be fuel thirsty, maintainence intensive vehicles to own and operate.

To give you an example, the gooberment paid 6K each for the radiators in these trucks.

Oshkosh will prob not sell parts to individuals and finding an Oshkosh dealer locally might not be easy. My guess is that there are a lot of proprietary parts on them that you may never be able to find on the civy market.

I was foaming at the mouth to get one until I got to Florida and started working with them.

Be careful what you wish for.

You are so right! From my perspective, they are good for turning copious amounts of fuel into noise and the ability to make one's nipples hard for a week or so. However, there are cheaper ways to do both. Of course there is the 'cool' factor. One cannot escape the fact that life is just one peter-match after another and then we die. I say that if you have the money and you've given up on wine, women, and song then buy one...get several...In the great scheme of things, they are cheap.

Why !!! Why!!!!

I hear the "why" question about the firearms I build too. Why do you need a .50 cal rifle? I answer back with a question - why do you need a Corvette when you can drive a Chevette? Why do you need a 4000 sq ft house when a 400 sq ft model will work? Why because I can thats why - If you can afford to buy 10 Mk48's then may the force be with you. Stimulate the economy the old fashion way.
