Mounting a spare under my M1102

Finally got around to getting the spare mounted. The winch came off a M1076 pls trailer, the bar you turn was about 1.5 ft to long and had a 1.5 in. drive head on the end. I cut the bar to length, drilled and tapped the end for a 1/2 in. bolt(I wanted the 3/4 in. head) then plug welded the bolt in place. The pillow block mounted to the cross member is original to the M1076 design and didn't move more than 1/16th in. on the bar when mounted on the M1102. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect fit. Now for the pics!IMG_20141228_143310486_HDR.jpgIMG_20141228_143242814_HDR.jpgIMG_20141228_143446252_HDR.jpgIMG_20141228_143256503_HDR.jpgIMG_20141228_143332723_HDR.jpgIMG_20141228_143622205.jpg

Hi,

That looks great. I've been looking for some ideas. Where did you get the winch from. Is it for a spare tire on the trailer as well, or for something else. Do you know a NSN?

Thanks

If the trailer only sees on-road duty, that's a very good idea.
I like it.

Off-road, the tire would catch/hang on stuff very easily.

The winch was off a M1076 pls trailer, it was the spare tire winch on said trailer, no I don't have a nsn.

Nice install. What does that do to the tongue weight? I used to put a spare tire in the back of tub so I could stand the trailer up on back end (to work on wiring) and it would stay on its own.

I weigh about 180lbs and with the tailgate down I can very carefully still climb into the trailer, but it's right at the tipping point. It makes lifting the tongue on and off the pintle hitch easy.
