MTVR turns over but won't start

I have this 7 ton that has been giving me fits. It will briefly fire off if I spray some either but will not catch. I'm deep into troubleshooting at this point but I'm starting to think it ain't got no gas in it🤔

Actually this is what it looks like during the disassembly process at the Marine Depot in Albany. This will come back to life as a brand new truck soon.

I cannot help with your no start but your photo caught my attention. Do you work there or did someone share that photo with you? If you do work there, may I ask what you do? Thank you.

Howdy Chief, I may be able to give you some direction as I just revived THREE MTVRs that were slated for divestment as non-runners all for fuel related issues. Definitely sounds like you have a fuel issue.
  1. If able, pressurize the fuel tank with 7 psi of air and crack the bleeder on the fuel filter mount. The plastic bottom bowls on the fuel water separators are cracking with age and allowing air into the system. Pressurizing will either A) force bleed up to the fuel filter B) identify leaks. This will not fully purge the fuel system and will require more cranking with pressure applied to reach the head.
  2. How are you applying the starting fluid and how much?
    1. One of the MTVR's I have received a new engine in 2020 that was immaculate and they couldn't get it to prime. It was evident that they inspected the fuel system and tried to prime it with starting fluid. They stopped when they had the turbo intake boot off and were spraying directly into the turbo.
    2. After tracing the system and replacing the filter bowl for good measure, I too began to feed it starting fluid gently and keep it idling. This truck required near 3 cans to prime the final section of the fuel system.
  3. What is the ECM telling you (if anything?)
    1. Oil pressure reading isn't required for ECM to fire
    2. ECM is looking for 200+ rpm on crank (online says 270-350 but no C-12 engines I've seen have cranked anywhere near that high)
    3. Does it want to talk to you?
  4. Replace the cam and/or crank sensors with a known good ones. I'm not 100% sure if these Cats will default to a stock program or "Safe mode" for idling only in this state. Cat websites say these engines will not run with bad cam sensors period.

lol. sorry i tried to keep my adulting face on. I was iniitially concerned when you said you were deep in troubleshooting but didnt check the gas. ya had me! well I look forward to seeing anything you share.

I quote it daily.. though it appears it's a repeating problem for MTVRs. I'm not complaining.. keep divesting good trucks with easy problems for me. rofl

Hook up your IETM and it will likely tell you the ecm is bad and not communicating.
