Are you guys having any luck with the mustache spring on the parking break no breaking. Picked up the truck and it had a broken spring. 2 months after that it broke again. Didn't see any place on the spring where it was rubbing against anything, or anything that would cause it to break. Any tips?? I saw a thread where someone put 2 on at the same time. Does that work?

Two things to check for.

1st. Is there a spring at the top of the outside brake shoe? It should go from the shoe to the bolt that sits above it to set the clearance from the shoe to the drum.

2nd. Are the pins/bolts/bushings (whatever they are,) loose enough that you can wiggle the inner shoe around and feel the slop?

Either of those will cause the spring to break.
If you don't see the rub marks for it breaking, I would venture you are either missing the upper spring, or it is WAY out of adjustment.

Does the parking brake chatter when driving at higher speeds?

Thanks Hammer, I believe it is the spring on top of the outer shoe. I notice it a couple weeks ago, that it was only connected to the shoe and nothing else. I couldn't figure out what it connected to, even looked in the TM's. There is a deuce down the road and i looked under it, he had no spring. So I just left to loose. I will look under it Monday and study it some more. Thanks

There are 3 springs(as the TM shows). You do indeed, need all three.

Had to adjust/tighten up the parking break after recovery...had a lot of slop in the springs and shoes. I'll be
under the truck in the morning. If I can get the uppermost spring off, I'll send you dimensions...might be of value.
