I am NOT going! But, will assist any vehicles that will be heading through Vancouver B.C.,
that might need a staging / way point.

I will try to work with our clubs and municipalities to do what I can.

If you need local info, just PM me.

Our Legion is ready to throw on a burger bash for you,
and as soon as I know your requirements,
my Mayor will get yet another visit
(It's ok, he is very Pro-Veteran ... he took the time to get to know us!)

As previously stated, I might be available to play ground guide for a day or 2.

Ask your questions and I will try to give a semi intelligent answer!

Stan.

ALCAN options

I didn't get signed in for the Alaska trip either. Disappointing but not without opportunity.

Instead we've offered the MVPA a piece of land West of Edmonton that can be used for staging before and after the trip north. Our farm is located at the start of the main route north to Dawson Creek, highway 43 and Highway 16.

We're 40 miles West of Edmonton in the community of Bright Bank and it just seemed logical that we use that trip as an excuse to support anyone coming through and offer some free camping/ staging, 4x, trout fishin, toilet, parking and sleeping areas.

I'm not sure what the collector convoys are going to need but Terry and the recon team checked the place out and have the information they need to decide how we can help.

The door will also be open to anyone who decides to join the collector convoys but don't intend to go through Alaska.

There is still a huge opportunity to be part of a 'large convoy' contingency on the way to Dawson........through Alberta or BC........Up to the US /Canada border ......before or after the Alaska adventure, with or without the ALCAN boys.

Additionally our local Aviation Museum and the executive director has opened communication with the MVPA to see if the museum facilities in Edmonton can be of some use and if they can somehow support the MVPA on the way through.

They are also planning an August event in celebration of the 70th anniversary as Edmonton was one of the last "hubs" prior to the drive into Northern Canada.
A fairly large parking area is available at the museum and is within walking distance to hotels, liquor, a mall and food.

Hopefully the planning goes smoothly and anyone who wants a chance to convoy with the guys doing the trip get the info they need to be a part of it.

We'll see what the Convoy Commander has in the plans and work with it. Nobody gets through Alberta without a short, fat, balding guy escort.

Drivers Needed?

For those who didn't get signed up in time, there still might a possibility of being a relief driver on the convoy.

You will need to check with the convoy commander for possible openings, but I wouldn't be surprised if some spots are available.

Some of the days on the Alcan are going to be long days in vehicles without much in the way of comfort. Doubling up with someone will work for both members wanting to make the trip.

Just wondering when the west coasters are going to make the journey north for this event. I would love to join your column at least to Bellingham or Spokane. Would be something awesome to be a part of;-). Would like to go farther into Canada, however work and family plans aren't lining up for this one.

It's about time to revive this thread. When I know the numbers of pers who will be collecting in our area, I can proceed with trying to arrange a Biv Site, and a burger bash at the Legion. Let me know, and I'll try to do what I can from my point. We do have a preferred repair shop, and tire shop nearby.

I'll wait for the convoy Commander to send me the requirements. Stan.

wsucougarx,

The plan is to have people who want to travel together, to form up in groups and proceed to Dawson Creek British Columbia.

Stay tuned for more information on the group in your part of the country. You can follow the progress on Facebook. Look for MVPA AC 12 Convoy. :driver:

Outstanding LH I'll look into it. My son's birthday is on the same date as your rendezvous date 12AUG. Wonder if he'll take a sore bottom and countless uncomfortable hours in the passenger seat of my M35A2 for his present...lol

The California West Coast convoy is headed up by Saul Marquex (sp?)

Saul Marquez is a good troop, I've known him for years. He went on the Lincoln Highway convoy in 2009 and we hooked up with him in Austin, Nevada.

Paul, if you are referring to Chris Brown, who is either in charge of safety or helps with safety protocol, he's up here in Washington State.

Sorry to hear that, cancer SUCKS! I was lucky, mine was easily cut from my left kidney. The 2' incision wasn't easy but it forced me to be a lazy slug for 3 months.

I wanted to make the trip but the slow pace and my truck only getting 4mpg put a damper on that.

alcan feeder convoys

I am sure they have picked their feeder convoy leaders.
Get on the ALCAN12 facebook page and ask them who you contact.

Janet and I are in a convoy with some neighbors and their friends.
