they look great. What centers in the Humvee rims? Do you have any spacers behind the rims? What rpm are you at doing 70 mph without overdrive? Great thread, thanks!
Completely stock H1 wheels, no spacers, but I am running ~75" wms-wms dually axles. No tach yet, but im guessing with the 4 speed 700r4 Im doing somewhere around 2200rpms at 70mph.
I'd love to get a all-in-one gauge like you can for a boat/airplane. looking into that now.

Its been over two years since ive updated the build. I did just drive and enjoy it, got busy with the other builds in the fleet, but i do have some updates.

Fist thing to address was the wiring harness. Basically it had 37 years of previous owners cutting and splicing.... poorly.
I envisioned a clean, simplified, professional looking wire harness.
I purchased an assortment of colors and gauges of oxygen free, 100% copper marine grade Wires, heat skink wrap and water proof connectors and went to town:

Initially, i wanted to just retrofit a few wires, But once i got in there, i ended up pretty much rebuilding the entire thing. Taking the hood off was really the only way

20230617_170625.jpg20230617_171430.jpg

I upped the gauges on all the power wires, (batteries, alt, starter, glow plugs, main bus etc)

I am extremely please at the results. Also went a head and cleaned a few things up while i was in there with a bit of paint
The truck starts and runs so much better and I am 100% confident in the electrical system now.

A year or so back the previous long term owner connected with me in IG.
Found out the truck had been all over the west coast and had even been featured on a optima batteries promo video. pretty cool.

One thing that always really bothered me was the worn drivers seat. I actually have been searching since i got this for new seat, but to no avail. I actually was considering having the entire interior reupholstered, but at the same time still wanted the original look.
Finally hillbilly got a new donor truck and i was able to clean it up and get it installed. Even came with unobtanium plastics that cleaned up nicely with a little propane!

My rig has a dana 60 front and a ultra rare super 70 in the rear... more on that later.
Both are just open diffs and so i really wanted to get some traction devices in there.

For the front i opted on a lunchbox, mostly since there was one local on marketplace from cheap, but ive have great luck in the fron with these in the past.
The axle was disassembled, and the spartan locker installed.

But then it turn info, let refurbish this thing to make it new, so all new bearings and seals, everything cleaned and painted.
I realized i needed to do some kingpin work, so might as well buy the Crossover steering kit from ORD at the same time with a kingpin eliminator kit. Came up empty look for a 2wd steering box local and so i opted for a new cardone box from amazon for the swap.

I quickly ran into an issue however.
Turns out the ORD crossover steering hits the banks crossover exhaust pipe. Doohhh

Called ORD, they had never heard of this issue and in 20 years of modding these truck i have never read about this conflict either.
Initially I wanted to rebuild the banks exhaust, but it really turns out there is no spare room, maybe 5/8th of an inch.
I used a PVC pipe, melted to mock up a shape and found that just shallowing out the bens on the ORD draglink would provide plenty of clearance.

I ended up slightly clearancing the exhaust as well and then wrapping it in header wrap for some heat protection.
I added a new fabbed up diff cover and the front is finally done!

Everything looks great.

Not to be a negative Nancy but upping wiring gauge for no real reason puts a lot of stress on the terminals. This applies to many applications. I get stuck with many controls and automotive situations where someone uses 14 gauge in lieu of 18. The heavy gauge wire doesn't fit well and sometimes breaks the terminals.

Perhaps your ORD conflict comes from your 1/2 ton frame. Likely no issues or clearance with a Banks turbo in the 1 ton frame with the 1 ton axles. However, you are in a 1/2 ton frame.

Looks great! What battery terminals did you use? I need to upgrade mine with those

That's an impressive build you've done. I'm thinking the most painless thing you could do about the rear locker is to just get another axle. There's a 14 bolt with disks locally on Craigslist for $300 here. They're not hard to find.

Kept looking, still couldn't find any 14 bolts local much less one in my width
End up trying three different Detroit lockers, had to send them all back. Somebody pointed me to a guy named Carl jantz out of WA.
He apparently has a lot of experience with these odd axles.
Anyway, he said at Dana 80 true track would fit in there, I'm sure as hell it did.
Only thing I needed was 9/16 inch bolt sleeves for the rain gear and I had to buy a slightly longer passenger side axle.
Actually preferred the true track over the Detroit for the rear since most of my driving is going to be on the street anyway.

While I was in there I completely redid the transmission cooling lines. Very happy, although still a lot to do.
