Gimp,
It was apparently just a loose connection at the firewall breaker--where wire #C1 comes over from the starter relay. "Apparently" because I checked for loose wires by pushing on the connections, and though they all felt connected, after the check the motor wanted to crank. I just let a little air out of the filters and it started right up. Very satisfying.
