Mystery sort of solved

A couple (maybe few) weeks back, before I went down the rabbit hole of the charging system- I had brought my truck to my yard (40+ mile trip) and (I think) the next day the batteries were dead. Early this morning one of my superintendents was out where the truck is - tail lights were on. He turned the service light switch off. I tried it when I got here - sure enough service light switch on = taillights on. Might have some to do with this rat’s nest of wires a pervious owner created while trying to get a license plate light. We have to have license plate lights for a state inspection for Texas.

Are you sure that is not the brake lights that are on. I think that would make more sense. That is an adjustment of the brake light switch or it is missing the plate to shut them off and activate them. I think you can do a better job with the wiring for the license plate light. Them 3M scotch blocks are junk and should never be used in a permanent wiring circuit. they were intended for temporary wiring only and they hack the wiring when doing that. Good Luck. Get some heat shrink weather resistant connections on that light.

Scotch blocks are out - need to repair a couple of wires.
Found the brake switch. Little white nub is in with brakes not applied out when applied. I’ll pull it out and check it - probably tomorrow’s job. Thanks for pointing me in what I, too, believe is the right direction. 8CA28CE5-28A0-456E-BC5F-0D55E3B7135B.jpeg
