I purchased my M1009 about two and a half years ago. Brought it to my mechanic and asked him to get it in shape to make the drive from Santa Barbara, CA to my cabin near Idaho City, ID. Made the drive without a hitch and it has been up in Idaho ever since. Only maintenance done since then was an oil change. I do not remember or have paperwork on what my mechanic did when I purchased it. It only gets driven for about a month a year and maybe 200 or 300 miles. I do have someone go over and run it four about a half hour every two weeks and it is parked inside a heated garage.

I am going to ID in about a month and will be there for about two weeks without the wife, so I decided that would be a good time to work on the CUCV. Here is my plan, please let me know if I have any of the fluids or parts wrong.

Mobil Delvac 1300 15W-40 (8 Quarts)
Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Fluid (Transmission and T-Case) (9 Quarts)
Lucas Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Oil (Differentials) (5 Quarts)
Prestone Black Cap (Green) (Three Gallons) Coolant
Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Fluid (Power Steering)
K&N HP-3002 or Mobil 1 M1-302 Oil Filter
Any DOT 5 Brake Fluid
Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease
Thermostat – NAPA THM-381190 & THM-1040ST Gasket or FPG-35271

I am also wanting to change the transmission filter, fuel filter, all glow plugs, air filter, belts and the injectors plus return lines. When i do the coolant, I am going to flush with Irontite thoro flush and then add the all weather seal.

I just did this same service to my H1 and was very happy with the results. I know that not everything on the list may be 100% necessary, but I like having a good baseline on knowing what is what and what has been done. I figure I have the time to do it and the cost should not be to bad, so what the hell.

Can someone help me out with part numbers and good sources for the glow plugs, transmission filter, fuel filter, air filter (paper), belts and injectors?

My M1009 is a '87 that has a 4" all spring lift with 35" MT Baja Claws. Black powdercoated the stock wheels. Installed aftermarket racing seats on custom built sliding bases. If I have time, I will have the muffler shop bend and weld up a full cage for the interior. Bare floors with no coverings, ZERO rust and no back seat.

TIA guys.

-Fuel filter is NAPA# FIL3136.

-Glow plugs are Wellman 070 or AC 60G. (check ebay, or just google them)

-Air filter is just standard for a K5/K30- any parts store can look it up.

-Belts are Gates (or Dayco): driver side alt- 7575 (15580); pssgr side alt- 7483 (15490); Pwr Steer- 7448 (15455)

[The long way around to finding part numbers is to check the unit parts manual -20P, find the part number, then look for it in the index which will give you the NSN. Then do an NSN search on google or tpub.com. This will tell you the gov supplier/mfg. Then go the supplier- most have a parts interchange search where you enter the NSN and it tells you their part number.]

Transmission filter set is standard THM400 kit. Should be awailable in the auto parts shop or they can order it. You need it anyway. The cork seal is not awailable seperately. Retie two or three times with a lot of feeling after several days of use, else the transmission will become an oil well. The bolts are metric! It is M6!
For engine oil stick to the SAE qualitiy mentioned on the dip stick (the C-part is for Diesels, as far as I remember it is CF without checking in my barn on the truck. I not realy remember it for this is the minimum you can buy over here nowadays.). 15W40 is a good choise. You better do not try syntetic oils, for the seals are not made for that thin stuff. The syntetec oil will run away.
Power steering fluid normally needs change only when repair is required.
For the limited slip rear axle there is a addition to the oil required. Howerver, this is awailable in the Auto Parts shop as well. It comes in litle bottles of about 200cc volume, one for each oil change every 40000 miles or 4 years, whichever is first (Mopar or GM or even sometimes Ford on the bottle).
AFT for trans/transfer should be at least Dextron II quality, if you get Dextron III, it is also good for you, it is higher level. GM says every 20000 miles. But unless it does not turn dark or smell burnt, you do not realy need to change ist befor 40000 miles (see above).
ATF levels once were defined by EXXON, that's why still Dextron II or III (all the oils run from the same tab, the label makes the maker, at least here in Europe).
Hope that helps a little!

Has anyone ordered these glow plugs from SS Diesel?

SSDiesel Supply :: GM 6.5 TD Specialists

I do not really care for the 60G's or the Wellmans. So many batter options for my H1 with a 6.5 NA are available, I was hoping the CUCV with the 6.2 would have some better options. The Wellmans are known to swell and the 60G's are just so slow.

I have been looking at these glow plugs for purchase from the same site as well. If any body has any reviews or if they are better than the wellmans, the input would be appreciated.

Thanks
