Need Help Removing Intake

I wouldn't reuse the piston. The above post is correct about replacing the rod too. Take the heads(s) to a rebuilder and have them checked out.

Amazing that a stud or other things that long can get into a cylinder.

OK I put everythng back together and it was cranking fine but wouldn't start. I noticed antifreeze in the left exhaust so I pulled the head again hoping it was the gasket . Had the head pressure tested and it has a crack from where the air cleaner stud fell down on the number 8 cylinder. I am trying to find a used J code head but i'm not having any luck finding one under $350. Would appreciate some direction in finding one at a reasonable (cheap) price. Thanks.

wow....thats some awesome work........on both sides....the stud...and all ur work in taking that apart...

how did that stud work loose.....?

is this something we should all check.....?

There are two studs mounted in the intake that hold the air cleaner on. The rear one sheared off at the base and went down into the number 8 cylinder. They are a two piece construction and can be picked up at your local Chevy dealer for about $8. I have two new ones now.

Thanks to Chief_919 I secured a head for $100 and have installed it and put the motor back together. My newest issue(s) are:

1. A leak at the fuel injection line. I have cleaned the nut, washer and line at the connection point but it continues to leak when cranking or running. I have no idea how to torque to 20#'s with a wrench either. The rest of the lines are fine.

2. A lot of white smoke out of the left side. Is it safe to assume this is attributed to the leaking injector line and fuel not being burned? It smells of diesel.

3. The glow plug "WAIT" light does not come on now. It did after replacing the piston and putting back together the first time, but not now. Suggestions or solutions?

On that cylinder on the left bank did you replace the push rods and rocker arm shaft some times they get womped out and dont like to open right after what was in that cylinder or the lifter may have some problems to.
Here is one way to check what cylinder is missfire take an ohmmeter and dis connect the wire at glow plugs and check for resistince when the engine is running higher the resistince the engine is fireing on that Cylinder/ and lower the resistince it is the dead cylinder.
