We have an early M998 model HMMWV and are looking for someone to restore it for us. Any idea if there are people out there that do this sort of thing?

Thanks

It is pretty rough right now, I believe it is a 1986 model. It came with a gas engine, so we removed that and bought a crate engine 6.2L diesel for it and installed that. We have purchased a lot of parts. Such as converting the rear park brake from driveline mounted to axle mounted, a new fuel tank some new interior parts, new seat cushions and much of the needed engine parts to convert back over to the diesel. I believe the body needs to come off the frame and go through and sandblast everything.

We would like to get back to like new condition.

Shoot me a pm....I am in San Francisco bay area, calif.
I restore hmmwv's, and have been for quite a number of years.
Just finished a 2 door pickup, starting on another special forces GMV this week for a customer. Also just finished a slantback with 6.5td,4L80E and 242 conversion...
The 2 door pickup was stripped to the aluminum, acid washed and alodined....I then applied epoxy primer and 3 coats type 9 CARC. She looks fantastic.
If you don't want CARC I can substitute or latex.
The cost is in the body work.....personally I would not strip the old CARC off but prep it for new paint....you really cannot beat that factory paint....I had no choice, the previous owner sprayed line-X over the entire truck.
