Need your VIN number

The frame number should be on the frame rail on drivers side. Older trucks had it just in front of the front axle, newer trucks just behind the front axle. Usually about the center of the frame, but my 86 has it at the top of the frame behind the front axle.

My VIN is 0325-26542; from what I'm seeing here I guess that would make it a '68 or'69? the frame number is located on the lower part of the frame rail, just forward of the axle. Same number is on the data plate. It is a Kaiser-Jeep, contract no. is DAAE 68 something

That should be a 1970 by the 05 and sequential numbers. I have no idea on hood numbers.

No, as you said the first 4 of the row '0546' is the 'name' for the M36A2 click so I guess that numbers stays the same with all M36's. The 10172 is where you need to look, if I understand your first post.

On Kaiser M35A2 trucks 01 is 1966, 02 is 1967, 03 is 1968, 04 is 1969, and 05 is 1970. Am General carried the first 2 numbers for several years. The 46 designates it as a M36A2. The last 5 numbers are the sequential numbers of truck made that year. You might have a 1969 M36A2 that begins with 0446 that still has 10172. Even the Kaiser trucks seemed to have some carryover into the next year. What I base this on is actual truck numbers that follow this pattern. That first post was showing 1970 trucks with the different numbers for different models. Thanks for the help.

My 67' M35 is 0125 34271 with hood #'s pf 4K8941. Everything I found while restoring the truck indicated that it's a 67' not a 66' so it must be a carry over truck that was built in early 67'

Yes, they did carry over into the next year, I've seen 01 and 02 on 67 trucks. You can tell by the 34271 that it was a high number in the 01 run of trucks.

M35A2 with dropside bed...0425-XXXXX. Also a tag with USA NK0C3E on it. Strangely enough, there is no indication if it is AM General, Kaiser, etc.

The bed must have been changed 40 usually designated a regular bed. That should be a 1969 Kaiser M35A2 with regular bed (25) . Hope this helps

Was it common to upgrade the bed at Tooele when the motor was upgraded? This M35 was upgraded in 87... What other upgrades did Tooele do? Thanks for your info! Really interesting!

I don't know what upgrades they did. I assume they repaired everything that was needed. The original bed could have been damaged and replaced at any point.

I have what is titled as a 1970 Kaiser Jeep VIN #04D-86571 0539-106XX. The data plate says American General. It has a winch, so the 0539 for a 1970 with winch seems to stands true. When I got this truck from GL the bed was just sitting on the truck not bolted down. The rear trailer light socket was cut, and the bed is clearly much older than the rest of the truck given the degree of rusting. It looks like the bed was changed. Is there any way of telling which bed was originally on this truck from the vin?

I have just purchased a truck with VIN# NK005725610 with no manufacturer listed. The truck is a drop side. The 05 looks like the 1970 configuration, but could be later AM General manufacture? Can anyone decifer this last vin?

My Kaiser-Jeep M35A2 WO/W is supposedly a 1968, but the vin is 0125-36424
Truck number is 4L-1095

Here's a scan of the original data plate... I darkened some of the numbers as they were hard to read on the scan.

The contract number is DA-20-113 AMC-03416(T)

0125 should be a 1966 or early 1967. The 36424 being a high number would seem to be a 67. But even that can be hard to tell, sometimes. I have a 66 M45A2 that was built by Kaiser in 66, but Ward Lafrance didn't finish the fire body and deliver the truck until 1968.
On a 0539 truck I don't know how you`d tell what bed it had. It would probably have been a regular or dropside, as any other type bed they probably would have changed the 39.

My SF 97 form from GL said unk year, unk manufacturer so it was a big guessing game for me. My data plate has REO scribed into it and my vin is 0525-17592. I registered it as a 55 REO in hopes it would make it an easier decision for the DMV folks to issue historical vehicle plates. Still havent heard back from the DMV. I drove around the first year unregistered then paid $600 for commercial plates so I could tow 3 dueces off the base. They issued me plates and registration on the spot at AAA then 2 weeks later the paper work was kicked back by the DMV. So I procrastinated another 6 months and finally in June finished up the process. Now I have a temporary tag while I wait to hear if I get historical plates.

that vin 0525 would indicate a 1970 M35A2 regular bed, probably AM general. It might be 71 0r 72 as AM G seemed to use the first 2 letters over several years. I have a 77 thats 06 and a 86 that`s 09.
