Well...after waiting for a couple weeks do to my flight schedule as well as the seller offering to take care of the registration and such I finally picked up my recent M1009 purchase...:) Plates and keys were handed to me and off I went.

Drove home with no issues...about a 30 mile drive. I was a little paranoid so I was noticing any and every smell...LOL. A little bit of a dusty burn smell and a little brake smell after some harder driving but everything seems A-OK. I did hear something fall near my feet on the drive. It was the glow plug controller card box...LOL.

Now for the kicker...!

I was all ready to do the doghead starter relay once I got her home. I started her a total of 3 times from the pick up till I disconnected the battery cables to do the mod. I started out by doing an oil change first and while the last bit of oil was draining I removed the bolts on the bottom of the dash...etc. etc.

I get under the dash, look up and pull down the bracket with the relays and what the ****...?......the stock starter relay fell apart in my hand as I pulled it down...! I could not believe it...! Absolutely unbelievable. I can't imagine how many starts were left in it. It was apparent that the coil had been overheated and was definitely not long for this world.

I was thinking that I was being paranoid by not wanting to do anything with the truck till the mod was done. Well...if it were not for this fantastic forum, I would have been screwed...aua. I used hi-temp rated connectors, crimped, soldered and heat shrinked. I agree with some of the others that posted about the volume of the solenoid click but I don't care...lol...it does work great. It starts instantly.

I proceeded to start doing some other general maintenance and such but it does seem to run well. Lots of power. I added some PRI-D to my diesel fuel up and even though the fuel gauge said it was at half a tank...it took fifteen gallons so a sending unit may be on the list as the gauge needle sure does seem to bounce around a lot. Way more than my civi '87 K5.

It does seem to vibrate quite a bit at idle though. It actually seemed to vibrate a little more after I got home as opposed to my couple test drives. Maybe the good drive home loosened something up? Any advise is appreciated on smoothing it out.

A new fuel filter, belts, hoses and such are waiting in the garage as well as a new keyed alike lock set and other assorted goodies.

One thing I'm going to have to do soon is replace all the instrument panel lights as they are all out except the heater/fan switch panel. Headlights, blackout lights, signals all work though.

Pics are of the pick-up as well as the doghead relay mod...
