I have been on here off and on for a while researching and trying to learn.

Thank you all for all of the information thus far and for all I hope to learn in the future.

So anyways, I finally pulled the trigger on a truck. Won the auction today. Hopefully pick up next week. This should be fun.

It's a 1952 Mack M51A2. Former fire truck. Missing the original bed, unfortunately.

I hope so. I'm trying to decide whether to try to find an original bed or just make it a shorty dump with a cut down standard bed and a spare tire rack in front of it.

I've see some made using a M1101 type trailer for a bed......nice width and made out of aircraft alum (no rust)....7' 2" wide....same length

I'm afraid that the aluminum bed may not hold up to me adding a dump hoist. I've always wanted to get a deuce and put a dump conversion on. Not that I'm going to be using it commercially, it would just be handy for hauling dirt or rock for the driveway, etc.

I've called around a little and a correct bed is more than double what I paid for the truck, so we'll see.

we have built a few dumps in our time, on the aluminum bed it can be done but you are gonna have to add some real steel and real weight to make it live.
