New J Pipe is HERE...!!!

I got my new J pipe and flex pipe and gaskets.
Now to prep it for paint and cut it to fit the muffler.
The old pipe was split and the flex had holes in it...

While I agree your old one was trashed, its a shame you couldn't find one better than that, the bottom weld seams tent to rust at high rates.

I'm not sure how old mine was, so it needed something.
Hopefully painting it with some High Temp paint will make it last a little longer.
Any suggestions..?

drill a small ( read 1/8 )hole at the very bottom of the J in the pipe, it will blow a little , barly noticeable , but let water out,, just like drilling a hole behind the catalytic converter

Cap your stack when your parked. Rain & snow will accumulate in the bottom of the J Pipe and it will rust through. A soup can will do as a cap. Also from the type of holes in your flex pipe, it looks as though it was rubbing against the body. Do a fit check when you install your new flex pipe.

I did install a flapper cap when I put a muffler on, the holes in the flex were from electric arc with battery cables (before it was mine), were temp fixed with JB Weld by previous owner, did not last.
I think the split happened when my old engine plagued with head gasket issues and had a combustion event with some coolant in the cylinders on start up.
Looking to get covered parking soon....

And just like I expected, I had to take a couple inches out of the middle, it would have never fit the elbow and flex.
I just cut off 2" including the flange, another 2", tacked the end on and test fit, then welded it up.
With my little HF wire welder, I realized just how much I suck at welding....

I think I payed $90 for my nos pipe that was already green, fit perfectly and had no weld.
WOW... I looked for a while, but this stuff comes and goes pretty quick. Hopefully it will last a little while.

I got it all cut down and ready to start the painting process. It seems to fit really well (now) and tucks up a bit higher in the fender well.
Those little U shaped fender covers helped hold it for a test fit, but I'm having a heck of a time getting them off, so I dont scratch up the paint going back on...
