Well finaly had time to put the new starter on. After the problem i had with shorting out the starter silonoid. Hooked the bats back up and nothing, well i have dash lights, but nothing from the starter. The wait lite comes on and goes out after a bit but the starter does not even click. Turned the hedlights on and hit the key and they stay on. Checked the bats and they look good. The gen lights go out when i hit the key but the other lights that used to go dim due to the short stay brite. Need to get it fixed this is my only transportation for work other than the wifes car and she needs it for work. I am guesing there is a fuse on the ignition somwhere? Please help. Any ideas? aua

Check your engine ground straps and your battery connections. You could check your fuses under the dash by the emergency brake too. Could be an ignition switch too. Get a 24v test light and hook it to the starter ignition terminal. Turn the key and see if it lights up. If it doesn't, may be a bad solenoid again.

ok there is a relay under the dash about where the ashtray is that is about 2 inches long and an inch wide you can jump that from the red wire straight acroos to the purple wire if it works you know what you need to get next if still nothing check on the starter if it is grounded good and also on the starter solinoid look to see it there is another place where the small wire can connect because my new starter has two places one works other one doesnt

Forgot about that. Those are prone to failure on these trucks. Had a brain fart. aua

Thanks. Some things to try this week end. Also the new starter i got is a new style gear reduction doe anyone now what the stater brace looks like for the new style staters because the old style is to long. Or do you just not need one due to lighter new starter, but they give you a lug to install one. Also is ther a part number for that relay and where to get one?

I think you should get a multi meter or at least a test light and a buddie. See if you are even getting power. The very first thing I would do is DOGHEAD starter relay mod. IIRC the small wire goes on the lug closest to the drivers side on the starter. Search for the bracket its around here somewhere.
