Hi everyone,
I am looking to learn more on the MV', in particular the 6x6 trucks. I live in S. Tx and my wife and I fish on the beach a lot. We primarily fish the Padre Island National Seashore for days at a time. My intentions would be to go with a 6x6 for its offroad abilities that I have read about. The lack of full computer control and the ability make a nice offroad camper with capacity to be fully self sustained. I am new to the models and if you can think of one that I should research please advise. I will be using the search function and learning what I can. Thank you

Welcome. As you like the outdoors and adventure bits, You should consider (hopefully) using your potential military vehicle acquisition for ex military events in your pastimes, (as) with the friendships interesting events and support your experience will then be the most rewarding.
Consider an M175 Kaiser Jeep, tough as old boots, straight forward and suitably ugly looking!.
An alternative, after visiting and riding in one one, perhaps with another member in your area, for a "test drive" possibly?. Larger, the M35A2 deuce, Rugged, no complicated computers etc, and equally ugly looking for events shows and your pastime. good luck, keep us informed of your eventual choice, and link up with other members on this site, and in your area.

Thank you for the suggestions, the M109a3 looks very interesting. Before I registered I thought I read about an MV event in Texas, it seems like it was in April? At an offroad park or something like that. I cannot seem to find that post again. Is this a current event.....that would be something I would like to go to if it is coming up soon. Does anyone know what it is?
Thank you for the welcome and you bet I would show the truck off if I got one. I have some friends that are lifers in the Marine Core. I was going to build a Ford Crewcab 4x4 for mine and my wife's hobby and they suggested the 6x6. After all the experience they described in the deserts in the middle east, the 6x6 sounds like a beast in the sand.

Welcome from Indiana! Good suggestions on the M35A2 Deuce and the M715. I find the Dodge M37 pickup is a nicer ride than the M715 and I have to be careful to not hit my head when getting in and out of the M715. The Dodge is a bit smaller on bed size and cargo capacity though. The OHC motor in the 715 is a good motor with good power but you want to stay on top of the tune like valve adjustment and plugs and points to keep it in top shape.
If you are going through soft, sticky mud a lot with a Deuce it is best to have single tires on the rear. They do not push the mud the duals do. Also, when mud packs between the duals making each set like a roller there is no traction there that amounts to much. Many have gone to the trouble of reversing the real hubs to set the wheel out further for singles which is a lot of work. I have not had a problem with just removing the two wheels, reversing the inner wheel so the rim center offset is toward the hub and bolting it back on with the inner wheel lug nuts only. That way when hauling grain or stone and for good weather I can go to duals whenever I want. With that said we have the tools to easily do that like good impact wrenches with both the socket for the outer 1 1/2" nut and the square head inner nut.

We leave the Offroad Ranch Saturday morning (usually between 0730 and 0800). We typically leave the museum midafternoon, and the police escort us back to the Offroad Ranch.

I went 3 years ago before I had my 5 ton and it was good to talk to everyone and see the various MV that are there. It helped in my decision between buying a Deuce or 5 ton.
