I have read and read for a while before registering and so far love the site, but I am having trouble finding answers to a couple of questions. I know that I am wanting a A2 and I have been looking around at some auctions and dont want to overpay, my question is, does someone have an idea of a rough guesstimate as to the bid prices these days so that I dont overpay. Is there some things that someone could point out to me that I need to be on the lookout for. I will continue to keep reading but thought someone could help me not buy something thats going to be more pain in the long run. I am torn on a hard top or soft top, I would love to get thoughts from someone as to what way they went and why.

I also have seen that the duece is widly available on Ebay and other sites and some of those seem to be worked over, hence the higher price, I wonder if thats a good way to go or is it just more fun to do it your way from the beginning rather than buy someone elses vision of what looks good.

Great site yall have here, I look forward to hangin around. Thanks, Kyle

Get one and go through it. Thats the only way to learn your truck and make sure things are done right! Then if something breaks, YOU know how to fix it. No $500 tow bill and $700 bearing install. I'd look for a truck with a soft top Cause its fun to go topless and going topless with a hard top is a PITA. Alot of guys like the air shift front axle.

A lot of deuces go though Hooks, TX. A decent deuce without winch will go for about $1200-$1500. With winch will add about $1000. Look for one on the Govliquidation website and you will find a few fairly close to home.

I vote for soft top, hardtops are worth more. Do you need a winch?

Things to look for hmmmm......gear oil leaks, break fuild leaks, torn boots, batteries...I could go on and on. Find a member to go with you.

Dito, do the work yourself.:ditto:

last I saw w/on winch 1,500 and w/w 2,500 GL. This is ballpark.

I cant see a reason for a winch, is it something that can always be added later or are original winches hard to find? I looked on GovLiq and noticed something about an EUC needed, didnt look complicated but I assume some here bought from there, how long does it take on avg for the euc to come back? Also, does GovLiq hold the item during this time for it to come back?
Should I expect a rusted out rig under 2k fromt them or on average are they pretty clean? Last question, if I win the auction, do they provide some sort of dealer plate or how does that work? I would hate to have it towed to its destination....Sorry for all the ?'s...

Welcome! I got a hard top mainly because I wanted the security it provides. Also installed a locking handle on the driver's door. The hard top was a must here in Montana for heat too.

This has been mentioned in a lot of other threads, but always closely inspect the entire braking system, particularly if you're buying from GL. The trucks sit for quite some time before and after the auction. Leaking wheel cylinders, low master cylinder, soft pedal, etc = trouble when you're in a 13k pound truck coming up to a stop light.

Other than that, check all of the basics and read as much as you can.

Euc takes 60 ball park, GL holds the money and truck till it comes back clean.

Winches you could buy later, but it will cost more. I say if you want one get a w/w. Other here have added winches later so there is always a lot of info.

About the rust, mine has almost none. Others have not been so lucky.

I would always preview before you buy.

Good luck on your search.

Thanks a lot guys, I am buried with all the reading I have to do. One question though, can I just drive down and preview or does that need to be scheduled ahead of time. Thanks for all the help so far. I am sure I will be posting something here soon to see if anyone wants to make some extra $ to check out what I want to buy.

If you buy from GL, plan on a long wait 60-70 days on the 1st EUC. Down south, I'd go soft top, up North, heater and hardtop. Winch is very expensive to add! If you want one buy it with. GL sites with lots of trucks=cheap., few trucks , especially nice near a large city, expensive!!!!!! You have to make a appointment to view, some won't have an escort meaning forget it. Your bid money will be charged to your card in 2-3 days. Read all of GL's FAQ. I'm in the forever wait for mine. If you can find one for sale privately for what you pay on GL ( watch their auctions on a truck you would like) WITH A TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd go that route. I missed one near me with a winch and trailer with all the stuff, drive it home, for the same price:mad::mad::twisted: You must go to each truck auction after the sale ends and see what it ended up selling for. If you just read the original listing, the price is not updated. Once the auction is over, my "watch list with no bids, can't be found" I just go down the whole list and click on my watch trucks for the final bid after closeing. Pre-view is great if you can. You have a problem! You have been infected with Green Disease! Congrats, a nice bunch of fellows to fall in with. Send beer! John

Wow, there sure is a lot to read, I know I am still going to buy one of these and it will ultimately be at 1 of three spots, Ft Sill, OK as I have a large family farm 20 miles away in Duncan, or out of San Antonio as the wifes family ranch is in New Braunfels, or Hooks just because its close to Dallas.....If anyone is going to preview or loadout a m35 and wants some free labor/help I would be up for it just for the learning experience, and if your going out of Dallas I have a 3/4 ton I would drive and pay the fuel, again its worth it to me just to gain the knowledge. PM me if ya want to take me up on the offer. Thanks Kyle.

Outstanding, let me know when it is. I can make it and help any way I can, like I said before the experience would be worth it to me.

ditto with AR Yankee for his pickup, it will let you know what to look for and experience is invaluable. make sure you go into the resource section on the site here and read the operators manual for the m35. As one member here pointed out it is rediculous to spend thousands on a truck and not read the 20 dollar manual telling you HOW to operate and service it. take care to note what tools, fluid, ect he brought with him. get to know your GL rep just in case. and take pictures...mostly to post here.
