New User in NY

hi folks.... im new to the CUCV game.... I just picked up an Old M1008 with 78K that appears to be original... with one Mod.... they bypassed the ignition switch to operate the starter.... so u turn on the key and push the button....
Im having starting issues (it starts with silicone/ether) but i dont want to use this method...I will start a post with the details.... anyone in Rochester NY please feel free to contact me...
I have several GMT400 trucks but no military trucks till now...

i was told by many diesel owners use silicone to prevent blowing up the motor...lol
its a john deere spray that has a lubricant and ether...
