also i read on the cucv wiki that the m1008 and m1009 are the 1984 model year if thats so then why are there 1986 and 1985 m1008/9 for sale?

84-86. 24V system is why the alternators are the way they are. When in doubt rebuild its the easiest if not take it to a knowledgeable rebuilder like Peavy Bros here in Jax.
Just get familiar then decide.

A condensed version.

The Government contract was written in 1983ish. The trucks where to be built to 1984 specs. A few 1983 models where delivered but using 1984 specs.

The civvy versions received upgrades in 1985 and 1986.

The contract stated that the CUCVs would not receive the upgrades so the parts depots didn't have to keep changing inventory.

So what ever year you have, when ordering parts ask for the 1984 version.
