Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I'm also looking into building a LMTV (M1078) into a camper. I have confirmed the flat bed weighs 1300 lbs. Also I am designing my own box and am very interested in the anti torsional bed. The factory bed is hard attached so I'm now wondering if it prevents or reduces twisting. When my truck arrives I will go measure it.

My understanding is the box on the 1079 had attached to it down it's whole length on each side the same/similar Chassis metal C channel sub-frame as the flat bed. Granted the box's sub-frame mounted different to the chassis than the beds. (fixed in rear.... captured spring in front)

That's interesting. I am leaning toward the same construction as the S-280 shelter which they use on the other trucks.

Is there any chance anyone has a photo of the front spring attachment?

Have a look at Quade's (Trucky McTruckface) build here: http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/169722-Trucky-McTruckface-Overland-Adventure-Truck and follow their Instagram for more info on an anti-torsional bed, and why Quade went with the 4-point frame. The owner of Total Composites (FRP box manufacturer) can also give you some ideas; they both emphasize that an anti-torsional sub-frame is necessary for a self-made box as there is flex on a 6x6, and also beneficial for resale.

However, take a look at Seth's build on a M1079 (4x4) --- he uses the already-attached military box and since the frame is shorter, doesn't worry about flex. Here's his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJBnvhDzu48QFBz9omKgfzg/videos. He's also on this forum.

Oh, and Eric's build (Duckworthe) on the M1078 is probably closer to what you are looking for as well? He doesn't worry about flex on the 4x4 frame and attached directly like Seth.

Good luck -
