newbie question re:starter solenoid

I recently purchased a 1971 AM GENERAL M35A2 in fair shape, all original. Still has 24 volt system, which is ok with me. First question is a generic 24v solenoid going to work ,as long as the post configuration is the same? Secondly, I don't plan on getting historic plates and would like to drive it a little more frequently, so which insurance is cheapest ? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
