I was thinking of doing something like that also but I need to know which way the coolant flows.

Top IN. Bottom OUT. (looking at the engine the higher location is feeding the filter and the lower location is the discharge from the filter back to the cooling system.)

On the filter housing I used the top feed goes to IN and the Bottom to the OUT.
