A few years back I built a temporary "fence" out of m101's.
I had close to 40 of them. I wished I would have taken some pics.
This was over an issue with a truck I had in my back yard, out of sight & on an improved surface.
Nosey neighbor kept complaining, couldn't see it but knew it was back there.
City has an ordnance on "junk vehicles" i.e. Not tagged or inspected BUT nothing on trailers.
So long story short I bought as many as I could & used them for a fence.
It was pretty funny, city even said that neighbor should have just kept his mouth shut.

That is funny as he11. It sounds exactly like something I would do if I had a neighbor like that and I used to have a doozy while she was still alive.

WOW! Now I'm pissed that you didn't take pictures :)

HMMWV replacement contract has been awarded; all HMMWVs in the field will be replaced. Selling them is political. Depending on future administrations they may be sold or scrapped. There are a lot of HMMWVs. It is not the quantity that will be in question when it is replaced but rather the willingness of the politicians to sell the military surplus.

If you are referring to the JLTV, this is wrong. the DoD is only buying 50,000, and that's Army and Marines. (last I checked)

I guess, that's the 21st Century's version of circling the wagons.

Cool! We're replacing a $40,000 dollar vehicle with a $433,000 dollar vehicle.....Wonder which Senators and Congressmen have donations to their re-election funds.....

Come on guys...do your research, it's all over the Internet. The HMMWV is not slated to be out of the inventory for 20 more years. M1151's don't cost 40k, more like 175-250k depending on variant.
We are only getting ragtops....there are no more soft skinned vehicles being produced for front line action..
thats why you have seen so many top and door kits coming out of DRMO.
at my base, we have just a few ragtops....reserved for flight line use.

Most of Bragg is still soft skinned. We have uparmored ones, but most of what you see running are tan 4-door versions. The ones we got issued when I returned from Iraq were rebuilds.

Sorta but not really
Circling the wagons was a defensive, life protecting move.
I did the trailers because I found a loop hole in the bs law & did it only to piss off the neighbor. :)

That brings up an interesting question. Once we get to replacing newer armored variants, will there even be any sold? It doesn't seem anyone wants civilians to have any armor. With all the newer MV's coming out armored, will we even be able to buy any MV's in 20 or 30 years? If current practices hold true, they will all be scrapped!?!

Do you have any idea what it costs to develop a military specific vehicle from the ground-up, develop a spare parts and maintenence program and administrate a military contract???
Exactly, and that is for a vehicle that doesn't fly.........

Unless the demil code changes, then they'll get chopped up and destroyed. As it stands at the moment after the Ferguson riots and people whining about the militarization of police, even LE agencies aren't getting the armored stuff anymore - that's to include armament carriers (but not necessarily armored) like the M1025's, etc.

That could all change with a stroke of a pen, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen.
