Hello fellow HMMWV owners of North Carolina. How in the world do you get these trucks inspected. Iv called ten DMV numbers, three inspection stations and talked to a dozen people. Nobody can answer this one question, how do you get past the DMV computer system? The system requires a 17 digit alpha numerical vin and rejects my six digit serial number. Who in the Raleigh area has gotten thier truck inspected, who did you go too and how did you do it. Iv been fighting this for a month and a half and nobody has any idea how to do it. We'll, at least that's what they say. At this point I feel as though it's a run around, never the less who's gotten inspected and how did you do it?

Thanks

If the inspector will pad the number to 17 digits, it should work with their computer.

I just got off the phone, I was told he won't do that because it would flag his shop by the dmv. I have to wait, at this point, until Thursday when Sgt. Love is back in his office to find out the correct way to do it.

The inspection station I was working with said they did that and it didn't work. I went up there today, it's was a cluster. I'm reasonably assured that they just giving me the run around.

Yeah, definitely let me know I live in Franklin as well. I'm in between Bunn and the airport, down the road from Floyds grocery. Where are you at?

NC and SC are probably different, but when I registered my deuces I took the ARMY number (which has numbers and letters and is at least 6 digits), the type (four digits) and the serial number (5 digits). Not a full 17 digits, but they put it in and the computer made a 17 digit VIN by adding one or two zeros somewhere in the middle. It's worth a try!

Okay I spoke with Lt. Inspector Lowe today. He told me he had to tap his LtCol for guidance. What I was told is that there are NO inspection stations in Franklin, Wake or Raleigh area in general that can inspect a HMMWV. I was told that all of those counties use the official DMV emissions inspection system. Because of an understandable oversight the system only recognizes 17 digit vins. Which, admittedly, is 99.9% of vehicles. I was told to look at Nash county for a specifically safety only station. Because Nash is a none emissions county they aren't required to have the official DMV system, but instead use a website online. So I'm going to be calling around tomorrow to find someone. I'm also going to call the state operated DMV inspection station in downtown Raleigh to see if they can do it, though Nash is closer and a long slow ride in the country vs. big city. At this point I'm not going to be able to do it until after Christmas.
