Heard about that one. That heater was something else. Worked great if you followed the TM and crossed the fingers. Only high blown fire ball i have had the privilege to see came outa a 30KW turbine gen. This item came to us from the Air Force. They wanted it in one of the Missile systems. This was at the school house about in 82. I was doing a class about 30 feet away on a Magic Mast. SFC B. was trying to get it to light off and after about 30 minutes of trying he figured out the plenum drain was plugged as a 40 foot stack of flame belched out the exhaust with the nice bang. We always started things outside. A MUST would do the same thing but I never had the privilege of observance. The Power Station could also do it real easy. This was the Era of JP-4. The recyclers on the 150 prevented them from doing similar wonders that GIs can do. SFC M. wanted to do hot dogs after that. Mr. T said NO. Wow, that was 4 decades ago. Time fly's when your having fun. Fun was watching a gasser M88 fire up or a M10 gasser pulling a load on the autobahn. Equip was safe in those days.

This was for the Patriot System. To power the AMG, (Magic Mast) and the Commo system for the mast. The Air Force controlled the repair parts and that did not sit well with the Patriot Project Officer, Maj/LTC Gustine. Also, the Turbine was not a "likable gen set". It had two yellow lines painted on it. Standing between those line was strictly verboten. Because when it blew, and it was something that happened sometimes, the turbine blades would exit the gen set between the yellow lines. And so the Patriot Project went to a pair of 30 KW gen set to replace it.

Shhhhh. Folks ain't supposed to know that kinda stuff. Not allowed to say Patriot. Some G man will get upset. You signed a Non-Disclosure agreement like me. Never saw that exit the gen set happen but we did have pictures to reinforce to Students not to stand in that area on all the turbine systems but to pass thru. The MUST had the compressed air and suction connections there. They always had issues, so real safe.. The 750KW Prime Power had it happen the most. It had a leveling issue we will say. Won't go into the 4MW power barges. Disaster waiting to happen. Boom. I assisted in filling the last with concrete. One mishap almost cut a Power station in half. Can't say where (tong in cheek). They were in a table ex and the long thing was standing about 25 feet away, payload and all. No issues, Hmmm. We had the safest equipment in the world they said. US Tax payer bought for their son Johnny to play with only the best. Others with coins had a doc say Johnny had flat feet. Don't go there. Remember all that great stuff? Then came" Be All You Can Be". I had flat feet after 25 years. You ever check if you glow in the dark yet? I had to do a Bio Essay. :poop: NRC Bubbas are nojoy. Passed two testing labs though and told Pirm how to do it. Part of 918 and 39E you don't want to know about.
