Oil cap

I checked out my oil cap on my m1009. I'm not 100% sure but i think there's a valve mechanism in it and it sounds broken. so i went to kragen and picked up a new cap for it. I'll post some pics of them. I just want to know if it will work with it. I think the original cap is a breather? it sounds broken inside. here's some pics.

if I remember correctly it should rattle which means the mechanism isn't frozen.

THATS THE WRONG ONE!!!! You need the breather cap. Its listed for a 80"s Buick 350 Diesel. Tell them to get the Stant book and look for it.

Alright. what's the deal with the breather? I don't know much about diesels yet. I just got this one and it's my 1st. How come you can't run one without the breather?

If you don't vent the crankcase pressure you start pushing out seals and thats means trouble. There is probably nothing wrong with the original cap.

If you run the cap for a gas engine, you build up too much crankcase pressure. Then seals start to leak.

Ah alright. yeah that's not good haha. Yeah I don't know if it's busted or not. but when I took it off and shook it. it rattled. I assumed it was broken.

It is supposed to rattle if there is nothing wrong with it.

Awesome. well that's good to hear. Another thing... my CDR was sucking up alot of extra oil, like a good puddle sized amount in the tubes. Got into my intake manifold and now it smokes alot on startup / idle. I took the valve off and cleaned it out in my parts cleaner. found a piece of foil in there, the kind you rip off a bottle of oil before you use it (under the cap)

My guess is that it was clogging it and caused it to suck up a ****load of oil. took it out and it hasn't collected any oil since. BUT it's still smoking alot. and it's pretty wet in the intake still... could it still be burning off all the excess oil?
