Oil cooler lines orientation...

Can someone please confirm the oil cooler lines orientation from the block all the way to the radiator?

My id markers fell off while doing some work and I need to determine which rubber line goes to the top aluminum line that goes into the radiator and which to the the bottom.

Also...which line is actually the send(feed) line and which is the return?

I do have the TM diagram and I just want to make sure the picture is accurate as sometimes the pictures can be a little off...

Thanks!

I'll try to look tomorrow. I meant to today but forgot. Heavy rain and snow here, not sure about tomorrow.

doghead...That would be very much appreciated...!

southdave...according to the TM the top block line goes to the bottom radiator fitting and the bottom block goes to the top radiator fitting. So that would be exactly opposite of what you're suggesting although what you're saying does make sense.

Hence my question regarding the TM picture...

Asmoday, sorry, I was a bit confused when you said "goes into radiator" I was thinking trans cooler lines. Just went outside and checked mine, The oil lines go top fitting on engine to top fitting on cooler and of course bottom to bottom. Top hose goes to the oil sample petcock wich i would beleve to be the pressure line if your looking to put an oil pressure sender on it. I've heard the aluminum cooler line oxidizes through time and leaks. Might be better off with a core type cooler in front of the radiator where the cool air is. Could never understand why they put an oil cooler on the hot side of the radiator. WP

Ok...well....that is definitely backwards from the TM diagram. I don't have an oil sample petcock. My CUCV is a M1009.

My lines are fine and I have a new spare set just in case....but thanks for the input.

doghead...if you could double check yours as well that would be great...

I just checked my lines. Mine are the same as the TM picture.

The top(radiator end) line has the oil sample port, then it goes down the the lowest port(on the filter housing).

I doubt there is any performance difference, if they are "backward".

Does it really matter? Not trying to be a smarta55 but if you hooked it up wrong, would it be an issue?

I grabbed one of the oil radiators from a 99 model and installed that along with a radiator type trans cooler from the same when I switch over to elecrtic fans.

Thanks doghead...!

You confirmed what my research has found as well....

"The rear port (slightly lower and sticking out over the oil filter mount) is out to the cooler and the return port port is the front port (slightly higher and more recessed into the block)."

From a tech....:)
